First of all, I have absolutely no idea about laptops really, I build and upgrade my own and other peoples PCs but obviously those are desktops, so I'm a little lost. It's my fathers 60th birthday in about a week and I'm looking to buy him a new laptop. He has one just now, and despite my best efforts it's really showing it's age, it keeps messing up and it's as slow as a week in jail.

I've been looking at all the new laptops, I really love the chromebooks and netbooks but these wouldn't suit my Dad at all. The laptop will pretty much never leave the house so one of the tiny ones would be pointless. I'm just looking for a standard laptop, the most intensive programs he runs on it are a couple of flash games and Firefox. No point going for one capable of gaming.

Now I'm lost, I've been looking through laptops and have picked out a couple but I want to know if there are any really good ones which are worth looking at. I'm looking to spend £400, hopefully less, although the budget could stretch a little for a belter. I'm not looking for the fastest laptop, but something which is nippy and will last at least a couple of years before showing it's age would be ideal. A pretty decent sized screen would be great, his eyesight isn't exactly 20/20. Could someone who knows there laptops help me out? Thanks.

Edit: Forgot to put in the laptops I've been looking at. Samsung Series 3 Looks a bit of a bargain, with the quad core, 6GB Ram and 750GB it should be good for another few years yet. It also looks great, has a blue brushed metal effect going on which my dad will like (loves anything blue). Also been looking at an Acer Aspire "AS5733-386G50Mnkk ", seems to be on a pretty decent discount just now, from £630 down to £380, it has an i3 compared to the AMD chip in the other laptop (Is it still the case for laptops that Intel have the edge?), has 6GB of ram again and his last laptop was also an Acer, with the build quality being pretty decent as far as I could tell.
