Its time to replace the lappy, im looking for Video Editing and gaming on the move 17" is a must and thin is great ! Really like the Strix stuff but heard the thermal solution is very poor and throttles the hardware on full chat = whats the point. Seen some of the new AMD stuff coming and 8 cores looks awesome ! but is the gpu upto ideally 1070 performance ?
Budget is £1500-1800
must be 17"
would really like 1440p but could live with 1080
games i play, GTA5, Arma3 are probably the most demanding.
battery life is not so important.

There's an Alienware 17 R4 on the outlet atm with a 1080 in it for £1900, also has the latest i7 and the resolution you want, it's under scratch and dent though but that saving is massive on a laptop that would set you back about a grand more new for similar specs. It's a shame there's no codes available for the outlet atm as it'd be a steal @ £1600 with the 20% codes that crop up.

The 1080 R4 Alienware is a cracking laptop. I sold one on the MM recently as I got a desktop instead.

With a 1440p gsync screen and that 1080 it's a monster.

cheers guys, think im sold on the Alien. seems there is a saving to be had with the "scratched dented" options i guess its a case of buy it and see how bad it is. although i see lots of people moaning about the thermals of the R4 as they went for a 3 screw retainer on the heatsink over a 4 screw and Dell are supposedly fixing this on the next release ? im happy to wait until upto Max so the question is do we think there will be a R5 by Xmas ?

over budget i know but thats my life, Does this seem a good deal ?

Its sealed from Dell (unwanted order) with premium support and warranty from dell until 2020 (apparently worth £400) its the older skylake but they have said the only real difference is with the onboard graphics that obviously wont be used (is this true)

Alienware 17 R4 i7-682HK
32Gb DDR4
1TB SSD+1TB HDD
17.3" 2560x1440
GTX 1080 8Gb
W10

£2000 on the nose

I think you can get a better deal. Ask for a discount using the Dell chat. The warranty is excellent, they come to you too sort it.

Thanks for the feedback, will give it a go, i think i would be happy with a 1070 anyway. Or does the 1080 really make that mich difference? This is my only gaming machine now for at least two years as im traveling about so much that a desktop does not work for me atm

That 1TB SSD is keeping the price of that machine high. Ask for a discount they will give you one. 1080 over 1070 any day,
