Depends on the level of anonymity you require. For me, I just don't want the average civil servant being able to check my internet history. I guess if you're trying to avoid GCHQ's roving eyes, then you could go down the bitcoin etc. route. You would have to start using a TOR build etc. then though, for it to be worthwhile.

Ok, so paying by PayPal would be fine then for browsing and occasional downloads

You do realise that the "servant" (officer) accessing the data first needs a court order which requires reasonable cause and an active investigation?

Credible source or not, I don't know, but I've heard this elsewhere too.

I recently took out a trial subscription of 1 month to PIA. I found it pretty good so when the time came, upgraded to a year subscription.
Since then, I have noticed it a lot slower when loading webpages etc. Has anyone else experienced this, is it a hook you in then slow you down scenario?

I'm using PureVPN - I max my line with it (70/19) - The split tunnelling doesn't seem to work however which is pretty much why I got it.

Just to clarify: I don't do that, but I used to know plenty of people that did that sorta stuff in old companies...

How do I test?

Speedtest.net with VPN up & also it sits at max speed on a certain application that is well known for downloading.

staff yes, administrators no, well at least not in the places i worked

but then i am talking about back pre-2000 when everyone in IT was always down the pub... That said, I look at file permissions in places today and can see exactly who can/can't see data - and there are always administrators...

but back on topic - have you costed up setting up your own VPN in the cloud? I was looking at AWS a while back and i think i worked out i'd be spending about £15 a month for my usage, but I would not have to worry about speeds being up or down depending on time of day

I use the belgium option, no idea why it just seemed to work really well and it auto connects to it now.

Occasionally I have to mix it up and select a different one but seems pretty consistent.

Been with PIA for over a year and haven't found this. I even tunnel all my traffic (minus a few exceptions) via PIA at router level using pfSense. Never misses a beat.
