So,

I am getting fed up with Arch.

I ahve been running it about 2 years, and recently I have found that the RR policy is just playing havock with my system- Samba is broken now, I get an error about Compiz when booting, I get all kinds of X server problems that I have fixed by softlinking because frankly I just want to get on with my work and not arse around with the guts of the OS.

I work with Solaris day in day out (and it's great, but I spend a lot of time fixing software installs on there, etc), so don't want my home PC to be a pain in the arse too..

I am thinking of moving away, but want something I can customise from the ground up, has good support forums, is lightning quick, and lite as a feather as standard, and has RELIABLE updates!

Am thinking Debian or OpenSolaris at the moment Any thoughts?

Is there no 686build of Deb? Will the i386 one be much slower than Arch?

And this is a really n00b question, but there seems to be an IA64 version- does will this work with my Intel E6600 processor? Is this perhaps the one to get?

Thanks
