I've been meaning to get these for a while as I can use them many times over and get a fair amount of use from them.

Problem is, I don't really know anything about them. Can you guys recommend one to me? Doesn't need to be fancy, just be able to load test car batteries and a simple volt meter to measure... well, volts :p

Cheers!

Get a digital automotive multimeter - not only will it do battery load/cranking/charging etc plus all of the simple stuff like continuity testing/checking fuses/relays etc but it will also do ignition timing and the like and a bunch of other useful stuff.

Mine was about 40 quid iirc. Worth the money.
I got mine from halfrauds ages ago, but any decent motor factors should have them. Could try machine mart also.

For a cheap & cheerful voltmeter I'd recommend this, as it has a hold function & AC volts. You'll need to be able to measure AC voltages to do a ripple test on the charging system:

For a slightly better one, the Gunson G4187 is pretty good & can be had for about £50

For a load tester, just pull out the fuel pump fuse so the car can't start and hook up your voltmeter.

9.5V and above for a ten second crank is a winner!:D
