Got my son a new Gaming Laptop and looking for a few recommendations for local co-op. He's 14 and heavily into Xbox with his mates still e.g. Fortnite / Modern Warfare etc. I can see he wants to give it a go and get into PC gaming but what would you recommend ?

TIA

Gears 4 & 5 (although he might have already played it if he’s got an XBOX)
Portal 2
Trine series
It takes two
Resident Evil 5 & 6 (double check they didn’t remove the local coop, there was some controversy around it a few years after release)

Absolutely second It Takes Two, I've played it through twice with my lad who is 12 now, it's such a joy of a game.

We've also really enjoyed games like Overcooked and Moving Out, they're fun and frantic and addictive.

Borderlands 2 hands down the best game I have played with my lad however it's not local CO-OP

The 2 best games local CO-OP we have played through are

Children of Morta

&

HUNTDOWN

Games I've had fun playing with family members - Valheim, Icarus, Borderlands 2 and 3 (we liked 2 better), Baldur's Gate 3 (can be a bit heavy going if you're not into D&D), World War Z, Sunkenland, Dinkum, Crab Champions, Risk of Rain 2, Orcs Must Die 3.

There's probably more but can't think of them right now. These were all easy to set up for us to play but I'm not sure they're strictly LAN co-op, more online co-op.

I had the same question.

If you mean LAN, Ark is a clear winner. Valheim too.

For local / screen sharing, BG3 perhaps?
I'll always recommend Ark to anyone who'll listen :D
(BTW, get 'evolved' as ascended still runs poorly on anything but a high tier gpu, I'd also suggest if you have an old computer spare with at least 8gb RAM that you set up a private dedicated server - it's quite easy but you're welcome to ping me if you need any help!)

Other not-dissimilar games worth a look would be Conan Exiles and Grounded.

There's a couple more on the horizon too!
