Hey guys,

Sure this has been covered many times before but my search skills suck.

Got my new bike yesterday and looking to cycle to work so need a decent lock, or two...The guy at Decathlon said that it's best to have one lock for each wheel to the frame. I know a lock is merely a deterrent, and anyone determined enough will have it, lock or not but I'd like a decent one, I had a look on Wiggle and the prices range from really cheap to "how much?!" but I'm guessing like anything, you get what you pay for. I'd probably also use them in my garage as well but the main purpose would be for work, which luckily is pretty sure and has decent racks with CCTV covering the area

Cheers!

Even the cheaper one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kryptonite-Bike-4-Feet-Kryptoflex-Cable/dp/B005YPK8G2 is probably good enough if parking in a private work car park etc.

Arguably it's probably more important to make sure you lock it correctly (i.e. making sure you attach to something suitable but without leaving room to get any leverage etc), as even expensive locks can be defeated if not used correctly.

At home you can use a much thicker (heavier) chain, padlock and an anchor into concrete or similar.

I also have the second one shamrock posted, got it free from kryptonite about 8 years ago when my bike got stolen while locked up with one of their cable locks :o

Fairly heavy though!

For your garage look at ground anchors and something like an Almax chain and Squire lock combo.

Don't always assume the "secure" ratings mean much. The Almax crop test video is pretty sobering for some brands.

I had an Almax chain & ground anchor for my 636 Ninja. Would say it's probably overkill for a push bike if there is such a thing... and at a good 25-30KG I'd be cautious about having it resting on any spokes directly.

Would definitely deter any thieves that's for sure! Each link was the size of an iPhone

Thanks for all your replies guys, forgot to reply! Spent the last day being harassed by BennyC on what to buy on Wiggle! Think I will buy that Kryptonite lock that's been recommended then get something a bit more sturdy to lock up in the garage. Those skewers look interesting!

In the same boat myself - how big are those Kryptonite locks, surely you need something that will go round both wheels as well as the frame?

Kryptonite lock and cable?

But, OP, where are you locking this bike up away from home? I use a Hiplock at work becuause we're on a secure site. If in town I'd use a kryptonite d lock and cable for example.

Does anyone have experience with the 'Kryptonite Kryptolock Bike Lock Series 2 U Lock'?

I've got one of their new york locks as my main but would like a cheaper half decent one for the front wheel too

Lots of reviews seem to say it can be difficult to unlock, just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this

It's what I went for as well as one of their mini U-Locks

It was a bugger to unlock the first time, seemed to have got seized in storage. But since then it's been absolutely fine and I've had no issue unlocking it, silky smooth locking and unlocking :p

Ive got one of these:

It's pretty good, I good compromise between weight and security, althought the shackle is only 7 inch long -
This has pros and cons:
Pro - Small enought to make leverage attacks very difficult.
Con - CAn be difficult sometimes to find something to lock the bike two as it hasnt got much reach.
but I don't leave my bike unattended for long periods of time unless it's alsdo lockid in a garage/building.

I think the mini locks would be too small for my bike tbh, its a rockrider mountain bike so quite chunky frame and tyres
