Spec me a low profile cooler for i7-8700k

You'd really have to delid it to have a low profile cooler. Delidding mine on a Corsair H115i dropped temps from 90c load to 70c

Case is the Silverstone ML-08
I've updated my sig now. Just got rid of the SG05, great case.
So, if i look into delidding it what cooler is recommended now that you know what case i have?

Currently idle temps are hitting high 60s :(

edit: don't think i'll be de-lidding after watching a youtube vid. Would like to try it, but don't have the time really.
Would it really be worth buying a de-lidded 8700k at £390? This is a gaming rig, so temps will be important.

Delidding has a different amount of efficacy from chip to chip hit if you have high temps, idle and loads, it sounds like you're a good candidate. Why does it take time? Confidence, sure but it doesn't take long :)

I wouldn't go or unless you're really clumsy. Cheaper to buy a delid tool, TG Conductonaut and some glue, and DIY. I did mine in a vice but I'm very accustomed to using it.

Can't advise on cooler other than air will almost certainly not meet your needs. MAYBE at stock clocks with an undervolt.

Thanks mate, appreciate the advice, I might give it a go, we'll see.
How much does all the de-lidding kit cost? I know it'll cheaper than paying for a de-lidded cpu, but curious all the same :)

cool beans :)
Would you mind awfully giving me an actual shopping list and where to get the kit from please?
I do have an i7-7700k that i've raised an RMA for. The option is that i could either return it and buy a de-lidded 8700k, or maybe de-lid the 7700k as well and buy a mobo for it.

Needs to be a max of 58mm deep.

Please and thank you :)
Some good info and some not. While de-lidding usually lowers temps some, it's not always needed. How much it helps varies with each unit as well as between different models. Two identical CPUs will not cool the same because their TIM seats are not always the same. Add overclocking voltages and the silicone lottery and individual temps vary dramatically. I would figure out what cooler to use and get case airflow optimized before if de-lidding is needed.

Temps in the high 60's are fine. What cooler are you now using?

I haven't used ML08 case, but help build a RVZ01 gaming system with 6700k which I think is similar case design and it worked extremely well, but it took us a few tires to get ariflow working like we wanted. We used Thermalright AXP-100 on CPU with vent flowing air directly into / out of cooler (can't remember if it was intake or exhaust) and 2x slim Scythe fans on GPU vents flowing into GPU fans. You need some space (4-6mm) between case fans and component cooler fans to keep noise down. I think we did not use the rear I/O shield so we would have more rear exhaust vent area. GPU was two slots wide leaving us like 18mm between case side and GPU, so a 13mm thick fan worked there. I can't remember if we had intake and cooler fans on GPU or just one 25mm thick fan.

Thanks fellas,
right, i'm using a stock cooler as it was all the shop had to get me up and running as i forgot to order an AFM cooler with the cpu.
The case imho doesn't really cater for extra fans, however because of its design most of the cabling can be bundled up low and behind the psu and doesn't impede airflow around the inside of the case.
I'm using a GTX1070 Ti mini, its got 2 fans and is around 170mm long i think.
I'd be interested to know how P4Clock managed with a Shadow Rock as well. If its possible i might try it as well.

My mistake it was scythe big shuriken 2, its about £30 and a very good cooler, will massively outperforme stock and will even get you an OC if you set up case fans right

the cooler is 58mm tall, i will send you a link(not a shop link) via trust

As I said above I don't see how Shadow Rock LP at 75.4mm with fan will fit in a case with 58mm CPU clearance.

Ah, now it all makes sense.

Scythe Shuriken is £37.99.

so if its compatible the shuriken seems like a best bet considering my cpu and case.

edit: apparently you need low profile ram for this cooler. Guess what ram i use? :(
