Hey people,

Can anyone suggest me a ‘Low Spec’ ISP for some family friends?

Basically they want:

• Free equipment, modem etc.
• Reliability – I don’t want them calling me out all the time…
• Price: The cheaper the better!
• Preferably a short contract term – I know this isn’t likely because of the free hardware requirement, but still thought I’d ask.

Speed or usage isn’t really important; they’ll be infrequent users of the net and be doing a bit of emailing I imagine :p

So, some suggestions/recommendations please ;)

Cheers,

SW.

Are they in an easynet LLU area? Aside from the contract issue (12 months for them), the new Sky internet offers could be ideal.

No LLU I'm afraid :p

This is the Isle of Wight - they only got broadband enabled in their area last year

Virgin's £14.99 offer is looking tempting atm?

Virgin has always been ok for my mum, tbh they are all going to be roughly the same reliability wise, as the problems are almost always with BT and not the ISP.

Hey guys,

I’ve got a mate now that wants to make the move to ‘Low Spec’ Broadband

Going to be using it for emailing pictures, general browsing and MSN.

Basically, she wants:

1. Short contract – she might move and want to cancel in the next 6 months…
2. Reliability of connection.
3. Free activation/connection – or as cheap as possible.
4. Possibly a free modem

Free equipment isn’t really essential, as I’ve already prepared her for the fact that she might want to get a router.

Speed not really an issue, although the faster the better I suppose?

What can you recommend? I’ve already had a look over at Dslzone and Adslguide, but all that choice can sometimes be a bit overwhelming… Anyway it’s always good to hear your own personal experiences from the ISP’s ;)

Cheers,

SW.

As i said before, virgin.
Thanks - completely overlooked your post this time! I remember you saying now :)

What’s the situation on the contract length? Didn't they get in trouble for misleading customers with their terms

If you leave before 3 months, don't they sting you for the activation fee or somit?

Still, I suppose that’s better than a 12 month contract :p

Do you know what the deals is, if not maybe I should drop them a line.

Cheers,

SW.

Not overly sure mate, my mum uses them and has no issues whatsoever, but she has been with them for absolutely years so i wouldnt know about the cancellation terms. :)
