Spec me a mattress...

We got a kingsize foam mattress from Ikea the other week. We went for the firm one, which is lovely and supportive but still soft enough to wallow into. It was about £165, with a 25 year guarantee. They say if you decide it's not comfortable or suitable within three months, you can swap it for a different one, no quibbles. You can also get a slim 'topper' (memory foam?) if you want for extra comfort.

I have sciatica and other muscle/joint illnesses, and haven't slept so well in years. The only 'thing' with Ikea beds is you need to buy one of their bases, and their fitted bedsheets, as their sizes are slightly larger than UK standards. The frame we got was something like £130 (again, with a 25 year guarantee) and their sheets are very reasonable. The rest of your bedding will fit fine. :)

Mum's after one in particular, a Deep Sleep Solo Memory Foam Double Mattress. Have no idea how good it is, she's seen one in a shop and tested it. Varying prices online.

Memory foam I agree is brilliant. I picked one up about 6 months ago for circa £600 from Dreams. Very good, Brilliant nights sleep, I am very happy with my purchase.

I am now tempted in the pillows.

I'm also looking for a new mattress, will probably be going for a memory foam one due to back problems. (sciatica) I've tried out one which is pure memory foam with a smaller layer of foam on top so it's not rock hard like a normal memory foam mattress, it's soft on top and firm underneath. My only concern is that people say memory foam makes you really hot and I hate being hot in the night.

It will not be full memory foam i think you mean the ones in shops where its all foam but its only 2" or there abouts on top and rest is reflex foam which isnt breathable.

Felt ok when i tried em in a shop but i duno i just couldnt see myself sleeping on one for along time.

For example it could be similar to this but you would be best to avoid as its 3" mem foam which is too much and will make you hot.
