I currently use a WDTV Live and I have a feeling it’s about to die, so I’m looking at a potential replacement but I’m very out of touch with what’s available. Here’s my wish list:

1. Must playback all sorts of video files, including 1080p.
2. Will stream from my NAS box (so no need for storage)
3. Must have a reasonable interface. Something that can grab tv show info and poster art etc would be great.
4. Must have some form of browser, or at least a well maintained app library so I can stream from youtube, Netflix, amazon, iPlayer, BT Sports etc
5. Must work with a remote, or at a push smartphone. I don’t want to use a mouse and keyboard
6. The cheaper the better, and for that reason I’m ruling out any windows based solution as I don’t have a spare licence kicking around
7. I’m quite happy to build a system from components, but due to item 6 and not having any spare parts kicking around, I think a prebuilt box may be the best option.

I think the area I’m going to struggle with is item 4, especially when combined with item 5. I’ve seen plenty of Kodi boxes kicking around but I’ve no idea where to start with them.

Any ideas?

Fire tv, is your nas running plex server?

No it's not running plex. It's a synology ds214se which I think can be forced to run plex with a bit of faffing around, but I don't think it works out the box due to the weak processor.

When I said I stream it from my nas, that might have been the wrong terminology. I basically just use the nas as network storage and my WDTV can just access all the files on it
