I need to cut my Corsair 650D to install 2 120mm fans at the front but I have no idea what to buy. I was told that I need something for hobbyists like a Dremmel with a metal cutting disc or Carbide Cutting/Shaping Wheel as the ones in the multipack are rubbish and will snap.

Budget is around £50.

Can anyone offer some suggestions or alternatives?

117mm hole saw

... Hole saw of correct size?
This.

I have used a 117mm hole saw. Together with the required arbor it came to an outrageous £30 as I doubt that I will make much use of it in the future.

I made a guide out of two pieces of plywood, screwed into place using a bolt in each of the four corners where the fan will eventually be secured; one with a 117mm guide hole in it and the other intact to stop the hole saw breaking through and scattering metal swarf everywhere.

A diamond axe is far too expensive :p

I don't know what kind of metal it is. Let me check the specs.

Ok..."stamped steel parts for increased rigidity" I guess it's steel. I'll be cutting holes and doing other cutting to the top of the case as I'm removing the hot swoppable bay so I'll need more than a hole saw.

I basically need a jack of all trades kind of thing.

That kind of job can be done with a dremmel type tool, requires patience and a bit of skill (you would definitely want to wear goggles to begin with).

I used some wire cutters to snip the mesh grill thing off, then a dremel to cut the sheet steel at the bottom. It's not pretty, but its hidden behind the case front so I don't care :p.

Hole saw will make a right mess of it, they really are rubbish in an uncontrolled cut. On a drill spindle running slow with the work piece clamped down and a bit of lubricant it will be ok, freehand in a normal drill it will be a mess.

Better to use a dremel and take some time over it in this instance.

If it were mine i'd take it apart and cnc mill the circle and my initials at the same time :D
