Mostly going to be used for Cod:bo/older cods and movies on one screen while working on the other.

they also want hdmi if possible, and ideally not massively expensive.

they're not really into computers etc so nothing to expensive/pointlessly powerful.
 
I think that's a bit on the expensive side for what they were hopping, I'll try and find out their monitor ress's later.
 
What sort of price are you lookin at mate, you can get a 5770 for about £90 or a 5670 for about £60. I'm using the 5670 at the mo runnin at 1020 x 720 which I play crysis on with no problems at this low res. If you are usin 1080p then I would say the 5770 or the 460 are prob the best ones on a budget
 
Mid range is very subjective, and has a broad spectrum of cards and prices. If you can spend circa £125 go for a 460 768. Slightly more would get you the superior 1024mb variant.
