Hiya folks.

Things have moved on since I stopped training so I'm after some up to date advice from you guys.

Since stopping bodybuilding 6-7 yrs ago I've focused on work this has led to a crap lifestyle(either driving or sat at a pc all day)
Fast forward a few yrs and I'm fat.

I've recently been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis so I have to be careful what I eat( I can eat all the junk I want it's the healthy stuff that sets my guts off again)

Been to the Docs this AM to get a new prescription I'm on corticosteroid, Anti inflammatory, Calcium and Vit D.
And as from last month Perindopril For high blood pressure.

Today I saw a new doc. This one is into running etc and has recommended a Low-Carb Diet.

I'm up for trying anything especially if it means I can reduce how many pills I'm taking.

I'm going back in 2 weeks to see how I'm getting on but in the meantime he's suggested trying a gluten free diet.oh and NO sugar.

I don't snack I don't eat sweets but I do eat KFC MCd's Pizza and drink my own bodyweight in Ribena.

As a result of the UC I also had to stop mountain biking Last summer. But now that is under control again I started with a fury last month.

I need help with the diet to shift the weight.

Any ideas.

Edit to add
5'9"
And 108kg

Ulcerative colitis?

This will sounds freaky and wild, but have a look at the studies involving nicotine patches. :D

Regarding diet, eat fresh food, cut out a lot of carbs and get away from fast food as quickly as you can. :)

I can reccommend the slow-carb diet. Check out "The 4 hour body" by Tim Ferriss.

I lost over a stone following this diet over a 12 week period with no exercise - now that I am back to working out the weight loss will increase.

If you want any specific info then give me a shout but there is plenty in the book (well worth a read) and also lots of info online.

What healthy stuff can't you eat?
Height and weight?

5'9" 108Kg (still carrying SOME muscle weight)

I have to avoid things with skins (beans, whole tomatoes, Onions,Etc) and fibre makes me worse as it can irritate the lining of my bowel causing it to bleed and me to go back to the toilet 30+ times a day

I'm fine with meats, Fish If its battered I've tried allsorts of fish and just don't like the taste unless its battered.

Basically anything you'd eat to keep you "regular" I need to avoid.

I'm back mountain biking again which will help. Also a mate who dropped from 18st to 13st @6'2" is keen to drag me back to the gym for Cardio/fitness work
But I'm not as young as I used to be and I have the odd injury which may hamper me from running etc. Although cross trainer and rowing and mild running machine should be ok.

Matt

Step 1: Don't eat any battered fish.

Its very rare Like 3 times this year. And non last year so wont be hard to avoid:D

One of my main issues is I get too busy to eat and then I get ravenous and only a 12" deep pan meatfeast will cure the hunger. And too add to it that MAY be ALL I eat that day so all those calories in one go

I'm crap when it comes to breakfast too. I only have a yoghurt nowadays because I have to have something with my Prednisolone

I'm well aware of how bad my diet/lifestyle is at the moment.

The only fish I eat as I hate the taste is skinless and boneless cod and tuna.

You hate skins like my moms bf, so why not just get skinless tomatoes, already cut onions, skinless beans (comes in dry form).

I kid you not: have a look at nicotine therapy. :)

I've had a quick look.

My specialist asked if I had been a smoker as its more common in Ex smokers. Not sure if it was relevant to me as I quit a decade ago.

Not sure if I fancy getting addicted to nicotine again though. Seems to get the best results you have to suck on a cancer stick

Nicotine patches have been shown to work, too.

End of the day, it's your body, but corticosteroids are not a long term solution either.

I've been weaning myself off them for a month now. I'm on half the dose I was when I was first diagnosed. I drop 5 mg every week - 10 days depending on how I feel withdrawal is going. Down to 40mg per day now but there is a big chance I could flare up again when I get down to 25mg which is a worry.

I'll do some more research on the patches.

I would not worry about what diet to do.

Download the app myfitnesspal or use the online version.

Put in your details and stick to the calories it suggests. (include your drink)

Eat whatever you want to eat, just stick to your max calories. And if you want to have a pig out day a week, then do so.

This worked for me :)
