Spec me a mini-upgrade

Hi all,

Headed for i40 this summer and wanted a bit of an upgrade ahead of the event. In particular I'm looking at my graphics card, although if there's a significant-ish upgrade with my current socket I might splurge for a CPU too. Current rig in my signature.

Keep it as cheap as possible so long as the performance improvement is noticeable!

I would get a Q6600 or Q6700 secondhand for under £100 as this would help in games which run better on quad cores like Supreme Commander.

Is quad core good for gaming in general though? SC is pretty niche- not mine at any rate.

which version of the 8800gt oc edition do you have 312, 520 etc? are you going to sell it =p

There are other games like BFBC2 which run better on quad core processors too.

FPS's mainly, and RTS, but not SC.

World in Conflict runs better on a quad core too and even games like Dragonage Origins,the aforementioned Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Resident Evil 5.

Anyway what resolution do you play your games at?

You maybe able to pick an HD4870 512MB for £90 to £100 if you shop around.
