need some help choosing a mobo and ram for the Q9450 im ordering when it comes out... also need some help chooosing a cpu cooler that will fit the mobo and case...

already got half the rig bought and assembled, so lets start there...

coolermaster stacker 832
coolermaster realpower m850
wd raptor 74gb
pioneer dvr-215bk

will be using the bfg 8800gtx and xfi fatal1ty cards from my current rig... ideally would like the option to sli, but more interested in the 45nm cpu...so -

was thinking of getting the striker II and 2gb of ocz reaper pc2-9200c5, until i started ready all the negative comments on the striker.... is the ram and mobo known to be stable together? or has anyone got any alternate suggestions? is the striker II really that bad???...

either way, will be using 4 x 120mm fans on the side of the case blowing on the mobo, and adding a 120mm case to the roof vent as an extra exhuast... as well as whatever cpu cooler i decide upon. this going to be enough case cooling do ya think?....:p

all suggestions welcome... :)

Are you going to overclock? Is SLI crucial to you? If no to both then a decent P35 chipset based mobo will do the job very well.

But if you want to overclock you'll need one that can do high fsb with a quad core so a high end P35/X38 is unavoidable if you want to max out the overclock.

Memory wise I'd get the ballistix PC6400 2Gb on this week only for £38, has micron ICs and overclocks like mad, so unlikely to hold you back when overclocking your CPU.

As for CPU cooler a Tuniq Tower or Thermalright Ultra-120 are the among the best air coolers money can buy. Sounds like you've got the case cooling covered.

cheers mate, much appreciated!

im leaning towards the following (if its compatable?...) -

Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x1GB)
Thermalright Ultra-120A CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775)

unless it is worth going for a DDR3 combo?...

Personaly I would not worry about DDR3, I beleive the performance gain is minimal
and quite exspensive compared to DDR2 (have not looked at prices for a while).

Looks all compatable.
