Hi all

Had my system for quite a while now

It consists of a q6600 g0, 4gb ram, p35-ds3 motherboard, antec p180 case, hd4200 gfx, hx620 psu, crucial 64gb ssd (os) and few mechanical drives as storage.

I have about 10 years worth of video editing and conversion to do so thought maybe about time I upgrade to haswell, as have for the bug right now!

I don't game but like to watch 1080p films and other HD content, can I get away with onboard gfx

I'd like to keep the case and psu if possible. I have an os, have Monitor, keyboard and mouse etc

So what I'm after is a CPU, mobo (5+ Sata ports), ram.

I plan to have a mild overlock so a "k" CPU is what I want.

Been out of the game so have no clue what to look for, is 8gb the norm these days?

Budget £350 sound fair enough ? Will my psu work with haswell? Website says not confirmed

Thanks in Advance.

On board graphics will be fine for movie streaming

Intel:

1 x MSI Z87-G43 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard - FREE Alpenfohn Civetta Cooler!! £86.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £53.99

Your PSU will be fine. Haswell compatibility simply means support for low power states whilst the CPU is idle. Turn that feature off in the BIOS and you're good to go

Thank you very much.

Is there much difference between the 1600mhz and 2400mhz memory? Would the difference be noticed?

Depends what you're using the computer for really although faster ram never hurt. For what you're using it for however? Unlikely you'll notice a difference

done loads of reading last night and watched a few videos on YT - unboxing mobo videos are rather addictive :D

have had a bit of change of mind and upped my budget as im all for bang for buck and future proofing

3 concerns :

1. I currently have a Crucial M225 64Gb SSD for OS so i think i need to change this for a newer one, maybe a 128gb as been running the M225 for about 4 years and have 15Gb free, so, 128gb should do me fine? - any recommendations? Samsung EVO get mentioned a lot on here

2. Cooling - I have a Antec P180 case and runs near silent with a CM Hyper 212 cooler and no case fans.

Does Haswell need decent case air flow? and will the CM Hyper 212 do the job for the time being? or would I be better getting another cooler? or even a another case with better air flow as standard?

3. at this rate i may as well leave my current build intact and get all new components lol

so with that in mind, how does this look:
