Wanting to build a ryzen rig on a budget and would appreciate some input on which mobo to get.

I wont be overclocking.

Max budget is £100 but willing to stretch to £110 for the Strix B350 board if its worth it.

CPU wise i will probsbly get the cheapest ryzen 3 1200 or 2200g and upgrade it later as funds allow. 2200g seems the likely option as it saves the expense of a GFX card initially.

So the questions I have :

1. Do all B450 boards support ryzen 2000 chips out of the box?
2. What about B350 / X370 boards? Are they 2000 compatible out of the box?

What board is recommended?

Got a few in mind -

you want b450 motherboard but your selection is not great, you want the msi b450 gaming pro carbon AC thats the best of the budget range of boards. same vrm as its x470 counterpart.

Most b350 boards will have had their bios updated to support the newer CPUs by now, but it is still a risk that you get one that's been sat on the shelf for a while and still has an old bios. A few months back I got a Asrock b350 board and a 2200g and it worked out of the box, but I did have the necessary to update the bios if needed just in case :p

That being said, there are a handful of other little thing that the B450 boards have improved upon so I would go b450 all things being equal

Also this is unfortunately out of stock right now, but its a really nice board for the price.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £115.49 (includes shipping: £10.50)

the msi carbon AC is a better board and for extra £10.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Decided to go with the Strix B350 and spend a bit more on the CPU, so went with the R5 1600X rather than the R3 1200

On the plus side the mobo has a sticker on it saying Desktop 2000 ready for anyone wondering

An extra £10 and you would have had a 2600...not a 1st gen Ryzen chip.

I agree, for extra £10 he could have got a 2600x and for another £10 he could have got the motherboard i recomended which is a MUCH better board and VRM that would allow overclocking if he ever decides and also better poised for taking the new ryzen 3000cpu than b350board( although this is an arguable point).

In the end I went with the Asus board as they are my preferred mobo manufacturer. Ive had issues with gigabyte and MSI boards in the past. I liked the look of the strix board.

I probably did boo boo getting the 1600X as I hadn't realised the 2600 was only a tenner more.

But the systems up and running and all is good :)
