I currently have a Samsung 244T (24"; 1920x1200) which I got maybe 9 years ago. It's been absolutely great and continues to be. I got rid of my TV recently since I never watched it really and am now playing with the idea of getting a bigger monitor.

Any suggestions? No real price range, but I guess around 500? Flexible though if it's worth it. Size wise, i'm not sure. It's my primary screen so used for gaming, movies, browsing etc.

Also not sure what to do with the current monitor since looking online, it seems like i'd get very little for it. Have never used more than one screen (and desk space is a bit of an issue, though can look into getting rid of my printer I guess), but might be something to look into?

If you have an Nvidia GPU, defiantly go for that one ^^^^ or a swift, however, Dell have been known to have AMAZING CS, and screen quality. People buy their monitors solely on the fact of these.
If you can stretch, go for the dell :D

Thanks for that. Budget can stretch to that. Didn't know Dell's CS was that good :)

Though looking around, I see this for an extra £30 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/dell...een-led-monitor-midnight-black-mo-081-de.html

Is it worth sacrificing the extra screen space/res for the G-sync? Have to say, don't know much about it...I do have an Nvidia GPU - 770 GTX (2gb). Will I need to upgrade the GPU as well if I get one of these/other monitor?

With a 770 you wont really benefit from either purchase as the Card wont be able to push the frames at 2560x1440 / 3440x1440.

However a Monitor is something you keep for years, so if you plan on Upgrading the GPU sometime soon, the U3415W is a good bet. But it also depends on what you prioritise, high framerates (144hz) or Immersion (Ultrawide)

I personally dont think Gsync is worth the pricetag currently. It doesnt add much if you can push high frames. And tearing isnt something you notice much of with high refreshrate monitors anyway.

Anyway with the U3415W you can play games at 16:9, 2560x1440 pixelmapped I believe, so it would be kind of like gaming on a 27" whenever your GPU dont have the power. You lose the immersive width though.

You could maybe grab a 780/780TI from OCUK? That would help you quite a lot for not that much more after you sell your 770.
Either a 3gb 780TI for £249.99: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-304-ms.html
Or a 3gb 780 for £209.99: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-209-ms.html
Or the 6gb for £239.99: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-255-ms.html

The extra memory would be be good at 3440x1440 and can say, ultrawides are beautiful!!!

Wasn't planning on upgrading GPU since can play everything I want on high (Witcher 3 being the most demanding) but am open to it. THanks for the recommendations theatrix. Though if i'm spending anyway, I don't mind spending a bit more if i'm getting something very good for it. Would a 980 (not ti) be worth it for instance? Prices look like only an extra £100 over the 780?

I would say immersion is probably more valuable than high framerate. Though i'm mostly just after an upgrade without something specific in mind so open to being convinced whichever way. Have had this monitor for 9 years and am now thinking i'd like something bigger, since it substitutes as my TV as well. I've noticed some very minimal tearing on the monitor, but not to an extent it's been a serious problem.

Is ultrawide used properly if watching stuff? If not, i'd rather maintain the normal aspect ratio I think. I just picked that one cause it seemed an extra 5 inches of screen space for an extra £30.

Is a 980 Worth it? Only you can tell. Performance wise, yeah.

An ultrawide displaying non-21:9 movies is about the same size as a 27" 16:9 monitor. So watching movies on that would basicly be like watching it on a 27" (like the Dell 144hz or Rog swift) But a lot of movies are shot in 21:9 (2:35:1 or whatever its called) which fill the entire screen and have no black bars unlike 16:9 content.
And I believe more streaming sites support it, however 16:9 content will remain 16:9 content.

Thanks for that. Given that, I think for now at least i'll see limited benefit in moving to it.

What would the monitor recommendations be for non ultra-wide, other than the Dell one made above?

Just do some serious research on Ultra Wide res screens before you go down that route make sure that you are aware of what you are buying into.

A lot of us switched back to 16:9 for various reasons. Whilst immersive UW can also be troublesome.

Like ?

So at the moment tempted to go for a size upgrade and stick with 16:9/16:10 since I haven't experienced g-sync/144hz and it looks like upgrading for those will cost a fair bit in graphics cards alone, without necessarily getting the full benefit.

What would be the best options for that?
