Spec me a monitor

I'm interested in getting a monitor for times when I work from home, but I literally have no idea about monitors and reviews on retailer websites are always conflicting.

I guess it'll help if I outline my usage:

• Just for general desktop use, no gaming or anything
• Size, I'm guessing 24" max?
• Machines being connected to are a MacBook Pro Late 2013 (Mini display port & HDMi) and work's Dell laptop (VGA & HDMI)

Is there any point going above 1080p if it's literally just for general office suite use? Would like something of decent quality (i.e. uniform panel with minimal backlight bleed) that also looks good (nice stand, minimal bezels).

I'm looking at:
ViewSonic VX2476-SMHD
LG 24MP88HV

The latter has no display port but guessing that's not a big deal if I'm not wishing to output anything at high resolution and 60hz? Any other monitors I should be looking at.

If you just work from one document at a time that would be fine.

Personally, I started to find my single 1080p display a bit cramped. I had dual displays for a while but I had too many issues with the PC sleeping/waking with them attached for some reason, and I missed the extra real estate when I sold my second display.

A 1440p screen would let you display two word documents (or a document and a web page) side-by-side a bit more easily. If I was choosing just for work purposes, I'd favour a 27" or 32" 1440p over a 24" 1080p (actually, I much prefer working on my ultrawide as I like to have multiple documents open simultaneously, but that's probably overkill, really).

You also don't say whether your work is colour critical or not?

Funny you should say that, I was looking at 27" 1440p displays last night.

Colour accuracy isn't critical for work, but I do photo editing workflows on the MacBook Pro using Iridient Developer.

What about the Acer RC271Usmidpx? Looks good, is an IPS panel, has 100% sRGB coverage. I'm not sure what Acer's build quality is like though.
