hi all,

im putting the bottom line at the top... After 5 years Im leaving tmobile.

I dont see any phones that i want at the moment so im looking for a monthly rolling sim only contract to keep me going until i find a phone that i want. Ideally it will allow for 1gb or more data usage, but more important is to be able to use instant messaging such as skype and ebuddy. Also i use my phone as a modem with my netbook from time to time so tethering must also be possible.

What are my options? (If any)

---------------------------------------

now for the why im leaving tmobile (a little moan to vent)

[rant]
im currently on a training course in the middle of no where, far from home with nothing to do. Luckily some good football matches have been on tv and i pay £5 a month for tmobiles sky sports and news tv package. Which is geat as i have had a webnwalk max plan with tmobile since 2007 and have 3gb data, or so i thought.

Yesterday i got a text message after the liverpool match saying that i had reached 80% of my download limit. I checked my phone logs and ive only used 1.4gb in the last 30 days (not since the beginning of the month). So today i called customer services and i was assured i had 3gb limit and should ignore the txt as it was probably a system glitch.

So i carry on, and in the evening i start watching man u vs chelsea on my mobile. Just after the 2md half starts the feed stops followed by a txt saying im passed my limit and my internet usability has been restricted. Obviously i call tmobile agaiin instantly wondering wtf was up with their system.

So im instantly told i only have 1gb and i have never been on webnwalk max... Which my bills prove to be false. I argued my case but the girl didnt want to help me so as i realise im not gettting any benefits from tmobile despite spending £50 a month on them and getting crap signal, ill probably be better to move to another company for better signal without forking out for all the nice extras.

So i ask for my pak code and get sent to another person who obviously tried to convince me to stay, speaks with her boss and initially tries to convince me that im unable to access the internet cause of the weak signal out here... After i told her about the txts she tells me that because i havent actually upgraded since they changed their terms and conditions in feb 2011 that im still entitled to 3gb and she will transfer me to the tech department.

I get cut off and she calls back, instantly putting me on hold again cause she is talking to another customer at the same time. 1 minute later she is back telling me that im only entitled to 1gb....

So now im paying for an internet service that doesnt let me use instant messaging, access emails or access a subscription service that im paying £5 a month for (the sky mobile tv). Which seems pretty fuked up to me!

The woman said she would speak to the technical department about this and came back telling me that if i cleared my cache i would be able to access sky mobile tv again which i did and of course it didnt work!

After much effort, being swapped from person to person, being told various different things and nearly an hour on the phone i finally get my pak code. The girl gave it one last try yo put doubt in my mind by telling me to "be careful" because other companies probably offer the same limit - i said i didnt care because the way tmobile were treating me i would not respect myself if i stayed with them, and anyway it would be nice to have signal for a change!

I've been with T-Mobile for about 5 years now, and I got to admit since last year I've found there data limit terrible, but as far as I'm aware there the only company that doesn't charge you for going over your amount (unlike Orange who charged my dad £40 for about 700mb), you could allways try network 3, they have stupid high data plans for cheap

As has been said 3 are far and away the best bet for high mb consumption, keeping your current mobilei think you would be looking at £25th per month with unlimited dat, two thousand mins and texts, for the same money you could get a free mobile as a spare or to sell on, you'd still be about twenty five quid a month better off. Is your current mobile unlocked? If so pick up a payg 3 aim and try it for signal strength

hi all, thanks for all your replies.

ill get a 3g payg sim at the weekend and see how the signal is, cant be a lot worse than tmobile right?

ill be very careful to read their t&cs too....

Well im on the Iphone sim only deal with voda and so far its been excellent! Ive only been on it a week but everything seems spot on so far, coverage is spot on and reliability seems fine. Its £20/month for 300 mins, unlimited texts and 1GB of internet which is spot on for me and whilst its more pricey than other companies I cant fault them so far which makes it worth the extra cost.

Just done a speedtest using my phones internet.............

giffgaff.

Silly name, but they use O2's network, so the coverage is good, and I get 250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data usage for £10 a month. No problems so far. They don't do contracts. You just pay for goodybags or credit as and when you need them.

The unlimited data on giff gaff specifically excludes tethering. 3 is the only game in town for high data usage whilst tethered sadly.

Dont expect any other of the other mobile companies to be any better. I've had prolonged dealings with most of them and the best (narrowly) seem to be O2 for customer service. T-Mobile and Orange both seem to be decent and Vodafone/Three aren't so good.

Obviously it varies but they are all quite hopeless most of the time.
