hey, i currently have a 8800gt, Abit IP35 (not E or Pro just the normal), Q6600, 2GB DDR2 Geil RAM and a 458W Enermax PSU.

im wanting to change the motherboard so that it supports PCI 2.0 at the very least and with this upgrade my graphics card as my 8800gt is on the edge of losing its legs i feel on my 22inch monitor.

what would the best Motherboard and Graphics card combo be for price saving and future proof(not exactly a great term considering they essentially become dated within months)?

i was looking at perhaps a P45 or x58? and are 4870's worth buying now?

any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Id go with a p45 chip based board, and for graphics a 4870 or nvidia gtx 260/280. as mentioned if you go x58 thatll entail a new cpu and ddr3.

If your only reason for your mobo upgrade is for pci 2.0 then dont there will be no noticeable increase over a normal pci slot.

I would suggest 260 as the 260(216) with big bang drivers is much faster than any 4870.

Also getting a new 4gb of ram might be idea.

Tend to agree its not really worth it, but if you do think theyre about to die on you as you say in your post(not sure how you'd tell) This sort of set up would do you

Just seen your post, either the 260 or 4870, though with the 4870 you could always add another later, you cant with the 260 as that board doesnt support SLI, both cards are about equal
Yes the PSU should do you

no not dieing i mean last legs as in its starting to hit low fps the graphics card.

the basic story is my dad wants a compuer that isn't slow can run his flight sim and can skip around nicely with the quad core, so im giving him my graphics card n motherboard and im replacing them with some new tech that will last me and the 2.0 is so i can upgrade later, the pci-1.1 interface isn't going to last much longer and i think were going to see increased performance difference between 1.1 and 2.0. even if we dont see that much difference in the near time id still like to be a little covered n not buy old stuff.
