So I've been thinking about getting a bike for quite a long time now, mostly for off road downhill type biking. A few lads do it, and well I need some better type cardio to do.

Looking at spending £4-500?

Be used mostly for places like this; http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/infd-66dlg8

edit - http://www.dalescycles.com/2012-specialized-hardrock-sport-disc-p1775 would something like this be any good?

but then what is the difference between it and this

Do you mean actual downhill riding, or more your general trail centre off roading. As it will make a massive difference to your bike choice.

Hello,

Been offered a Trek 6300 for £595 which is a bit over budget. Does anyone thing its worth the extra £100? Its an ex-hire.

Most bikes at this budget have the hydraulic brakes and either 8 or 9 speed budget orientated parts. The frame is good but the parts could be upgraded in the future.

The Felt Six 70 at £479 is quite nice with the black and green colour im my opinion.

If you go second hand you could pick up a not very used better bike. Rather than getting a £400 Kona lanai you could pick up a second hand Kona Blast which would have been over £800 new which means you get better gearing, a half decent rockshox fork and usually a slightly better hydraulic brake.

Shame Im not still at Lossiemouth. I have a Mint Specialized Pitch Pro 2009, only been used a handful of times on the trails. Id have let that go for 6-650 (pushing budget ofc) with an unused Full Face Helmet, a Giro Hex helmet a camelback mule and pump etc.

Im still at cosford aye. Yeah price is over your budget quite a bit. I could come down a touch but it cost me a lot of money and I barely used the damn thing. Serves me right though.

Spec wise its better than what you get for the money these days.

Nice one Hedge, I'm down on the 29th of next month.

If you want to send me a trust on a final price and some pics if you could? Hopefully be able to fit it in the hire car :p

I'm 6ft, not tried any sizing out yet. Mate has a spec shall see what size his is and if I can have a shot.

How tall are you? I think large would be about my size though 19"?

Begbie, if you're spending that kind of money you need to be getting the sizing right.

I'm 6ft. I have a Medium frame for my Hardtail and a Large for my Full Sus... both suit me for the types of riding on both (admittedly I've not ridden the HT since having the FS).

Not trying to put you off but just making sure you make the right decision :)

Im 6ft 3. Always found the sizing to be ideal for me.

Anyway mate Im not in any major rush nor desperate to sell so just see how you get on looking about. There is a decent bike shop in Forres if you wanted to get sized up.

You might find a nice new bike that would tick the boxes for you :)
