I had a mobiblu cube which died last month, looking for something along the same lines..i.e that i can plug into my p.c and i can just drag and drop files onto it, no software or license worries.

Can i do this with the ipod nano's or ? also are sonys mp3 players any good ?

Afaik, the Sony ones require software, which is meant to be dire. The nano's use iTunes. I know theres many more, but some irivers can drag and drop. Not sure if that's much use though :)

But it isn't ;)

And Sony MP3 players are very good, well the older hd-1 to hd-5 were anyway, haven't had any experience with the newer ones.

Sonicstage has matured and is 99% stable bit of software now, and is pretty easier to use.

Sony flash players such as NW-E005 can be drag n drop if you install file to root of the player.

Id go for samsung YP-Z5 as thats true UMS drag n drop.

Fair enough, i was just going by a review i read years ago when i wen't to buy an mp3 player :)

Another vote for the YP-Z5 though, bought my girlfriend one of these for christmas, and was really shocked at the sound quality. People mention that the controls are hard to use, but to be honest it was dead easy. And yes to confirm, it is drag and drop all the way.

Yet another vote for the YP-Z5. Bought a 4Gb one for £79.99 for my car.To test the battery life I've had it playing through a set of headphones on 2 thirds volume since 11pm Thursday night and it is still playing!!!

Just bought a YP-Z5 a few days ago, also for £79.99. 4 GB flash for £20 less than I paid for my 1 GB Sony NW-E107 last year. Headphones are surprisingly decent too. Controls are a piece of cake once you figure them out, with the possible exception of scrolling around a zoomed image.

Sound quality seems excellent so far too. Re-ripped/encoded all my music to 192 kbps with LAME using audiograbber with impressive results. Struggling to fill the 4 GB TBH.
