Unfortunately Suzie our elderly Persian had to be put to sleep on Friday. Not a great time as we lost Pepsi our eldest dog only a week before Christmas.

Parents have never been without cats for more than a couple of days, and Dad had been phoning around breeders since Friday afternoon to get an idea for what was about.

He's just been out and come back with two persian cats. Both are from the same litter, born 07/11/2006 so their birthday is the day after mine.

Our previous cats have always been named on a motorbike theme..

Before I was born my parents had Morri and Waki (names after Kawaski). Then they had Shoei (names after the make of helments) and then 11 or 12 years ago got Duke (after Ducati) and Suzie (after Suzuki).

Originally if we got two male cats we were going to call them Harley and Dave, but both of the cats we got were female so those names don't really suit.

Dad quite likes Yoshi and Mura (after Yoshimura) but we're trying to think of as many ideas as we can before we decide.

Any input?

My old cat was a persian, died a few years ago :( He was called Shah, that's my suggestion. He was named after the king of the persians or something.

i have to say im a little disappointed given your dads obviously a cat lover, he really could have helped some poor cats out from the RSPCA or cats protection league, but never the less, i am sorry to hear that both pets were lost within weeks of each other :(.

but as for the name, its hard to name a cat unless you can see it, they all tend to have a look about them that makes them individual.

How funny, we do the same, due to my old mans motorbike racing in days gone.

The gender thing didnt stop us, we kinda adapted it.. so we started out with Harley and Dave, with the cats being male and female, we went to harvey and daisy.. completely unrelated names.. but it all came from the motorbike..

But still, tis done now. My cats are called George and Mildred. Oh and baby Bella. She's the youngest :D

Surely these comments about adoption don't make a whole lot of sense. If someone didn't take the cats from a litter then they would no doubt end up with the RSPCA down the line anyhow. More of an issue with commercial cat breeders I guess.

Well, for a start two cats that are currently sat in a rescue would be sat warming themselves in a new home with a new life ahead of them. It is ultimately an issue with cat breeders but the point is if no-one bought them then they wouldn't have a business. Would they? Eventually the last litter would end up either being given away/taken to the RSPCA and rehomed through them, but ultimately the cycle would be broken because with no profit the breeders wouldn't bother breeding anymore.
