Wasn't sure if this would be storage or networking or servers so figured this was the best place. I am after a 2 bay NAS to replace a WHS box, my desire is basically something that holds its O/S and stuff in flash and basically just has a two disk mirror using NTFS (so in the event of a system failure a drive can be removed and dropped in any computer to access data) and allows network share folder browsing plus DLNA streaming from a PS3.

Thanks.

I'm also interested in this.

Currently have two many drives in PC and would like a more effective storage solution for home movies and pictures with back up facility somewhere were thieves can't find it (loft area?)

Unlike ubersonic I'm more inexperienced at this so would ideally like some help if someone has set up something.

I've no idea of pre-built nas's but maybe I can help with a DIY - this is what I use myself :

Cpu: Intel G2030
MoBo : Asus P8H77-I
Ram : Crucial Ballistix 8gb (single stick) @1.35v
Hard Drive : Seagate 3tb Nas drive
Case : Bitfenix Prodigy
Pus : Corsair vx550 (had this spare)
O/S : Freenas (loaded on an 8gb sandisk orbit usb drive)

As you only want a 2-bay nas you could always get a different case but you'll star out with 2 bays and eventually want more ;) (there was a time when I thought my 1st 640gb external HD would last me forever....how wrong I was lol)

The O/S runs off the usb port so it doesnt take up sata port, and most of what I chose is as low powered as I could get ( people will say to use ecc ram with freenas but to get as I'm not really storing anything I wouldnt miss is lost i.e. photos etc, I just opted for non-ecc ram)

Hope this helps

Depends on Budget etc

The Asustor 202TE is a fantastic unit. Has HDMI out too so can also be used as a HTPC. I've been using the 302 model which is fantastic.

The Asustor units offer fantastic spec for the price compared to Synology who are still using Marvell cpu's in comparable level products.

The only thing I would say is that mobile app's for the Asustor aren't great but that is quickly changing. As the name suggests their parent company is Asus.

Very easy to setup and plenty of built in features and apps such as Plex media server etc
