DLink DWA-547. Will work out of the box with Windows 7 and the majority of Linux distros as it's an Atheros based chipset.

If this is for a desktop, have you considered a powerline kit for lower latency and higher transfer rates?

Yes a desktop but those powerline kits are a bit pricey. I'm not sure if I will be able to use one, with my setup.

I use Edimax EW-7728In.
Constant 4/5 signal for me and worked out of the box. Didn't need to use supplied CD or anything.

I suppose they do tend to cost a bit more than a wireless adapter, but not loads more - this kit costs £34.46 and if you want even more speed this kit is £10 more.

In terms of actual speed, powerline will tend to give you faster transfer speeds and definitely less latency, so the extra price can be justified.

I use a powerline kit (solwise) and its fantastic. The xbox doesn't slow down online like it did with wireless and for hd media streaming they are well worth it.
