as the title states, im looking for a new PSU, 1000w or 1200w, I noticed there's not much difference in the price between the 2, its the last piece of my puzzle to my upgraded system.

Im running a Gigabyte Motherboard and I remember reading somewhere that one of the manufactures PSU's don't work with Gigabyte boards, I cant remember which one it was.

Im quite interested in the Silverstone Strider series but not sure if these are the ones that don't work with Gigabyte, im after a fully modular PSU, and this one is on offer at the moment for the 1.2k version.

What's the reason for the high wattage psu? How many GPUs are you running and what are they?

If it is GPU's 12V ampage is important.

Well I have a Gigabyte odin 800w at the moment, about 5 years old, according to the software, I have 100w free left out of that.

Running 2 x R9 270x's looking to add a 3rd.

The Silverstone PSU I was looking at is 100amps on a single 12v Rail, 1.2kfor the same price as a lot of the 1k PSU's.

Gonna be honest adding a 3rd 270X wouldn't be a good idea.

Firstly Tri-Fire doesn't scale too well anyway

Secondly the lack of VRAM will be a factor, as anything which would benifit from the power of a third 270X, like a bigger resolution display or a higher refresh rate monitor also ultilise above more than 2GB of VRAM (in a few of AAA titles) already.

You're better off selling them and grabbing a single (and then a second) 290.
