Spec me a new car for under £2k

I'd rather get a 406 for the £2K budget, more car for the money.

will it strech to a hdi 110? we have a hdi 90 (in the poorer end of pottery industry :p ) and it is dog slow.

Bear in mind that *ahem* I've just lost my no-claims *cough*... so I'd like something that wont kill me on insurance. Would also be nice if there was lots of room for climbing gear

406 TD or HDI estate. Or Citroen Xantia TD or HDI estate :)

Both are reasonably cheap to insure, the engines are bulletproof, and the space within the estate versions is plentyful!

there is a couple of diesel 4x4's on autotrader for £2k, not sure what the insurance would be like for you but the'd be ideal for your climbing stuff and any off roading you would need to do to get to your climbing site.

well if you had an mx-5 then of course you would want fomrthing RWD again yes? if so what about an s14 or 13 for that matter.

Don't want another MX-5, I want something cheaper and economical - perhaps a half decent diesel.
Can anyone spec me one, cheaper the better but it has to be reliable.
