Hi all, not sure on what cards are better than others!
confused about nvidia vs ati as the ati shows higher mem clocks/processing cores etc etc

currently got asus 4850 512mb

would want something realiable and pos cross fire if cheap enough.
but ive always had and hated CCC

so thinking going to nvidia even tho my board is cross fire ready.

any suggestions

thanks Ali

now running 1080p monitor, but getting random crashes when gaming, only thing i can out it down to is graphics.

could it be specific game/driver related? software conflict? or PSU? if you can, test to see if you can track the problem down.

what happens in the crashes?

if you're looking at a new card, and dont care about physx or cuda but want a current dx11 card to last you a while.

lower price/best for below fullhd res = ati 5770 (can still handle fullhd fine)
higher price/good for all res = ati 5850

if you want nvidia then wait for the gtx 460 where price and performance should come between the 2 above cards.

its crashed on several games, i.e crysis, sniper ghost warrior, split second.
total black screen with loud buzzing noise. can only restart pc to get back to normal.
tried with and without ccc, tried jsut drivers on there own, even ones win7 finds !
psu is hx520 only powering 3 hdd's and graphics (obviously motherboard etc) so its not like psu cant handle the power.
even tried with just ssd and graphics alone so least power used. removed sound card too as i thought was original problem

budget i could stretch to about £150, if i wait a few weeks and put up with the random crashes maybe £250.

5830 seems good for the price i could probably stretch to that.

used to crash before going 1080 (benq 24"led)

last time I got the black screen + buzzing was because of a semi-stable overclock, can't remember if it was CPU or GPU though

i would blame it on my overclock except since putting win7 64bit on about 8 weeks ago its been at stock.
think im gonna upgrade anyway and if it still happens then i know it aint gpu!
