Im having problems getting my crossfire to work on my games, so im thinking about getting just 1 card to replace my current 2.

what would you recommend please?

my spec is in my stig

thanks
ian

edit to say, I was thinking that one of my gpu was faulty, but if I play games like borderlands 2, both cards are running and working fine. play newer games like rainbow 6, fallout 4, then only 1 gpu works.

not sure on price tbh, I haven't brought anything for the pc from when it was first built.

cheaper the better, something that will match my 2 cards or better them would be good please

Crossfire is terrible. Go with a new single card.

Best price to performance options are the GTX 1060 and RX 480 at around £250. The 1060 is faster in DX11 games (99% of games today), uses less power, and runs cooler and quieter. The RX 480 is slightly faster in DX12 games which will become the norm in the next couple of years until it becomes standard. If you're going to buy an RX 480, make sure it's an aftermarket 8GB card as they're faster and run much cooler and quieter. The AMD reference card is terrible. Both of these cards will let you use ultra settings at 1080p/60fps in most titles.

If you want something even more powerful, the 980 Ti can be found for £340. It's about 35% faster than the 1060 in DX11, and over 40% faster than the RX 480, but it doesn't have the same DX12 capabilities as the RX 480 or the 1060.

Then there's the 1070 which is as fast as the 980 TI but much cooler and quieter since it uses less power. It's quite a bit more expensive though.

Minimum you should go for is the GTX 1060 or RX 480.

As Mayh3M above mentioned; GTX 1060 for better performance in current games, RX 480 for better longevity because it does better with DX12 and Vulkan.

Then if you want to spend more to get more performance go for the GTX 1070. No point going above the 1070 really. Just too pricey.

The 1060 and 480 should be a tiny bit faster than your Xfire when it's working perfectly. And the 1070 will be ~50% faster than when it's working perfectly.

I would just try making a profiles for the games you couldnt get working with crossfire and force it 1x1 or AFR, always worked for me in the past, theres always the odd game that just doesnt support crossfire or sli but most of them do.

Since you were going for 1080p with crossfire already i imagine you either run very high FPS or loads of AA and high settings so i would suggest going with what Greg posted above also over a 480 to make sure you see improvements in all games, and not just the ones that dont support crossfire.

How much faster?

I would rather have new tech than old if the difference is not too much.

Does the 1070 not overclock?

In fairness, the 1070 does hold the edge when both are overclocked. The 980Ti was cheaper and hence my recommendation for both.

The 980 Ti isn't really faster.

At 1500 MHz, it'll beat a 2100 MHz 1070 by a few frames. But the 980 Ti will lose in the new APIs.

Add to this, nearly all 1070's will do 2100 MHz, but 1500 MHz is rare for a 980 Ti.

I'd go for the 1070 over the 980 Ti unless you can find a second hand 980 Ti for £250.

One just sold on the MM for £250 but theyre not coming up so often anymore, after the initial surge of them when the 1080 was released they started to slow down, i gave in waiting in the end and bought one of them £340 superclocked.

Yeah i heard theyre gonna be cheap, with the money youll save you can grab one of them new 6950x cpus.
