Currently running a 9600GT OC which is a bit naff. Looking to sell this and invest in a new card.

My monitor is a 22" samsung at 1680 x 1050.

I'm looking to spend around £170 tops. From what I've seen the 4870 looks pretty good at COD4 but I'm not an expert on graphics cards. Obviously open to nvidia too. I have 6/8 pin power connections too so can take something power hungry :)

Anyone have any suggestions?

Somewhat unlike me I've decided I need to scale down money wise on this. I don't play enough games to warrant paying for the latest cards. I play COD4 and will play COD5 etc. but also play DVD and use my pc more as a media centre.

I'm looking just at a 9800 GT such as ths silent version which actually appeals quite a lot.

Anyone got any pointers?

You won't see much improvement as at low res the 9600 was around as fast as a 8800gt which in turn is basically a 9800gt. Get yourself a 4850 for a little bit more cash will give you the improvement you are looking for. They do run a little hot but from reviews they also say they have low fan speed so little noise also.

This card may interest you only 117 and has a silent cooling solution on it. Good price as these cards also take away the heat problem.

lol some people need to read the threads. it's like they see spec me a card and they automatically spew 4870 lol.

the OP says he has reconsidered his budget and is looking at spending around £80 - this excludes the 4870, unless someone wants to give one away second hand at that price.

EDIT - in fact you could get a second hand 8800GTX for less than £80 and that would be better than 8800gt or 9800gt for sure. I had one and CoD4 max without breaking a sweat - can't say for CoD5 since not out yet, and this time it's not Infinity Ward developping but Treyarch so will have to cross that bridge when you get there

COD5 uses the same engine as COD4, so the requirements will likely be similar.

depends if they tweak, revise or push the engine. Key word you used was likely -Will be likely similar, but you can't know that for a fact.

That's a far more reasonable price. £120 isn't a bad stretch.
