Don't normally start 'spec me' threads but want to make sure I've covered all bases before buying!

I've had my Smart for about three years now, and put about 60,000 miles on it. Love having it but I fancy something new and having two two seater cars can be a real pain sometimes. That and a few people who know me know I harp on about the Smart being a surprisingly comfortable car long distance - after being sat on the M25 last week for 2 hours I think I want something a little more refined!

Requirements is ability to seat 4, ideally 4/5 doors.
Petrol - really not a fan of diesels if I can help it!
I drive ~18-20k a year, 6-7k town, the rest motorway
I'm quite a fan of spec high spec and don't mind paying more for it - leather, keyless, auto wipers/lights would be nice. Certainly don't want a drop in spec from my Smart which has most of that.
Don't really want to go much older than 2009, I drive into Europe quite a bit and given once cars get older breakdown seems to increase infinitely in price
I'd like to spend around £8k, however I don't mind going up-to £10k for the right thing.
Performance/Driving dynamics isn't really of concern as I have the 350Z and that won't be going anywhere!

I'm fairly tempted by an Auris HSD, because of spec/running costs, also looked at the last of the Accord EX 2L petrols - but they are getting a little old. Also randomly was looking at Mazda6 estates but the selection of engines don't seem great - either uneconomical (compared to performance) or diesel - which I want to avoid if I can. Although I realise 20k a year probably does warrant a diesel :(

What you think? :)

It doesn't matter if the accord is getting old, its a Honda and as long as its been looked after it will be perfectly reliable

I totally agree Relentless - reliability isn't my concern. As I travel into Europe at least 3 times a year once a car gets older the cost of the breakdown cover escalates rather fast!

I'm kind of temtped to tell you to look at something like a Lexus GS hybrid, but it doesn't really make the most sense for your criteria - though is a much, much, much nicer thing than any Auris

I have looked at those, again the age thing is a little issue however as you say, the GS is a whole different class of car! Certainly something I have been tempted by.
