Hey Guys,

Looking for the best bang for buck gfx card for my mate. I'm building him a pc with my leftover Q6600 setup and would like a decent gfx card to play BF3. We have a budget of 130.00 and would prefer to stick with AMD but are willing to check out NVIDIA as really just want the best price/performance.

Thanks,

Kev

I'm just wondering if it would be worth spending a tiny bit more for a 2gb 6850 for BF3? It's not a game I've really played, though I read enough posts on the forum telling how demanding it is to run smoothly. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestions, I was looking at the 6870, are they about the same performance of a 5870 ? I ask because I used to have a 5870 and it was about perfect for performance.

In sequence as follows in respect of maximum frames per second :

5870>6870>5850>6850 (The 5850 is only very slightly faster than the 6850). A 6870 with a decent overclock will match a stock 5870.

Sweet well I just ordered the XFX ATI Radeon HD 6870 1024MB GDDR5 from here. Seems pretty decent on the bechmarks I read. However would really like to know how it runs BF3 ? Anyone tired it ? Thanks for the help guys.

I played bf3 with a q8300 and a 6850 @ 1680x1050 with medium settings and i really couldnt fault it, things ran well enough. frames kind of ranging between 40-50.

But now i have 2 of them with an i5 im getting 60fps constant on high presets (vsync on)

I'd strongly suggest the MSI 560 as the cards are the same price, roughly same performance bu the MSI has better warranty and CS

Well too late now as order has been placed, i'm pretty wary of NVIDIA anyways, I normally stick with AMD. I run 6970 crossfire on my machine and they have been great other than bad driver support but recently the support and drivers have been top notch.

each to their own. Enjoy the card :)
