Well i decided vispa is a bit too over priced at 39.99 just for 20:1 contention lol.

I now have my MAC code from tiscali, and would like to move to a new provider, but there are so many out there im not quite sure which to go with?
(please dont link me to adslguide?) ... Im asking for all of your oppinions on different providers :p

It will mainly be used for uploading websites, and playing games such as COD2, CSS etc at a professional level, so i will need a low(ish) ping... Due to the need to download maps etc, and playing quite long hours on the pc, i will need a lot of monthly usage, as i also like to download music and videos.

I am willing to pay upto 34.99 per month, but please do take in to consideration i can get 4mb max down my line.

Thanks for your time

Im with Plus.net, have been for two years.

20:1 contention ratio, 8mb d'load, 40gb peak hour usage limit (5-midnight), nice ping of 5-20 in cs:s (had line de-interlaced), and most importantly for if things do go wrong, UK CALL CENTRES!! Thats always a winner with me now.

Unfortunately i have had nothing but problems with plusnet. In my experience I would really advise using another isp. I realise not everyone has has problems, but if you read the forums the number of complaints never seem to end!

Guess im one of the lucky ones, i know. But for me they've been perfect. Had to ring them twice, and both times the phone was answered in a few rings, and probs sorted there and then. When I went upto 8mb I said I was concerned about keeping low ping in games, so they set it up manually, with the line de-interlaced.

Any ideas mrLOL ?

You seem to know your stuff :P

tbh i find the standard ADSL crap

the LLU providers and Virgin (NTL/Telewest) are providing much better service

i have both in my area so didnt research the standard ADSL much.

I think its a question of accepting its not going to be ideal, and finding the best of a bad bunch.

fundamentally, anybody offering the BT ADSL Max packages is being forced by BT to traffic shape, introduce download limits etc.. etc..

i think the only other way round is UKFSN which i think buy bandwith from elsewhere or something ?

UKFSN, along with ADSL24, Aquiss, Vivaciti, Falconnet etc. sell the Enta network. Although also limited by BT and the lead times of new centrals (and the price of them a £1.5mil a go) means they have to use a anti packet loss tool.

I had the choice out of these Enta resellers, IDNET and Zen. Enta won by offering the generous off peak allowance and Aquiss acquired my money due to the support on their forums replying in less than 5mins to a random Q at 9pm. :p

Enta have a pretty good rep and UKFSN seems to get well rated as a reseller, afaik they have said no TS, only limits are those published and they are well beyond your average home users needs. Not sure how well they compare on the ping front but that will depend on a lot more than the ISP in question so is quite objective.
