Technically not for me, my brother, has a 2070 super, it's dying and it's 5 years old.

I don't know what CPU he has, I wana say something like an AMD early AM3, power supply I do know is a Corsair 750tx.

He says he basically doesn't want anything faster necessarily, either AMD or Nvidia no brand preference.

He says it needs 3 outputs for his 3 monitors.

He doesn't want to spend to much north of £200 but I said given prices these days might have to stretch that.

Cheers

Edit: talked him up to £300.

AM3 CPU? You sure? If so, a second hand card similar to what he already has is the way I'd go. It'd be under this 200 quid budget as well.

If AM4, maybe worth him waiting on the 9060xt.

Edit: Although if not necessarily wanting something faster, maybe a 6600xt or 7600xt. Or as said above, an equivalent second hand card. That's the way I'd go personally in his situation.

He won't buy a used/b grade card.

My brother isn't a hardware enthusiast like the likes of us (myself included) he isn't that bothered and would rather have less hassle. He only games now and then.

Ironically he is a lead 3d character artist and has worked for many big game developers, you will have definitely heard of.

9060 XT will be £270 / £315 and available from next Thursday!

Is this a new launch where you have to order within 5 seconds type of thing?

Otherwise I will see if he wants to wait, he might to be fair.

For what it's worth I have steered him towards OCUK, he was looking at Amazon and Scan as well, but I think he will order this otherwise:

He won't buy a used/b grade card.
If he's on a budget he's really missing a trick with ruling out B grade (or indeed used for that matter!)

My B-Grade 1080ti is still going strong years after its purchase (a few motors meetings ago) basically imo with a B grade it will either work or it won't.

If it doesn't you just return it, if it does you get a bargain!

My next card (most likely a 3080) will be used as I'm not expecting any of these to pop up on B grade, but buying from the MM and the standard of seller on there wouldn't be a reason for concern either.

Id go £315 for the 16GB 9060 XT for longevity. It will have the horsepower to utilize more than 8Gb VRAM

Yea the card he's thinking about getting (7700xt) has 12GB VRAM which in my opinion is absolute minimum these days.

I agree the appeal of 16GB and otherwise similar performance, seems like a win all round.

But........ If it's anything like previous GPU releases it'll be cluster ****, sold out in 14 seconds then the following nightmare.

Not a chance he will be bothered putting up with all that.

Regardless of what he uses, unless he upgrades that 1700X and assuming this is for gaming? He'll bottleneck hard on a 7700XT in many if not most games let alone anything remotely newer, if he doesn't need faster and wants to buy new he'd probably be better off buying the cheapest entry level card close to on par with his original GPU.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £243.98 (includes delivery: £3.99)

It's poo and not worth the money, but neither is a 7700XT given he'll see no more benefit from using it over the 7600 I linked with that CPU. Look, I get loyal to OCUK but if he can get a 6600/7600 for as close to or under £200 as possible just go for that. He'd probably see more uplift that way by popping in an AMD 5600 to replace his existing (possible) 1700X and still spend less than the 7700XT.

People forget that while first gen Ryzen/AM4 chips were great value for the core count, they were often slower than Sandy Bridge quad core Intels in gaming from back in 2012:

Never had a second hand card go bust, but I've had brand new ones.

You might want to take into account power consumption if he is a heavy user.
