Hi, I'm looking to get a new monitor, I started a thread before but I now have a new budget of £200!

I'm looking for something that will give me sharp clear text and good colour reproduction when using Photoshop. Also I like the idea of the blacks being black....can't stand dull blacks!!

I'm looking for anything between 24"-28". Bigger the better really as long as I get a good sharp image from a close range.

Cheers

I had one of these ordered for a small gaming PC, flawless monitor,
Only problem I could see is if you want to mount it to a monitor bracket or arm it wont work as it does not have any VESA mounting holes, otherwise if its just going on the desk its perfect, wouldn't recommend bigger than 24" as it is very bad for your eyes and will give you headaches up close that big surely!

Save yourself £60 as well while your at it ;)

The above monitor is about the last thing that comes to my mind when it comes to good colour reproduction and clear text.
It has a TN-panel, the panel type which is known for its not so great colour accuracy. Blacks will be the same as on pretty much every other monitor and the text might be slightly blurred due to anti-glare coating although that's nearly impossible to avoid nowadays.

I'd say you're after a monitor with a VA-panel for the deep blacks and better than TN-panel colour accuracy. The BenQ EW2430 would a good choice. OCUK doesn't stock it and the only the link on the BenQ site I can find to it is in conflict with the forum rules.. so no link.
Keep in mind that VA panels aren't all that great for gaming, ghosting isn't uncommon.

Hmmmmm, so it sounds like you go for either clear text and smooth videos (youtube, films) or good colour reproduction.

I think I would rather have the clear text and smooth video playback.

And VA panel's aren't the best either friend.

If you want the best you've pretty much gotta go IPS.

IPS has the best viewing angle. Has faster response times and is generally a better screen all round.

But it comes at a much higher price.

Also the BenQ you suggest isn't getting glowing reviews, Apparently it has:
"Shonky pixel response and a Dull LED back-light".

I can't compare it because I don't own one, but they are all relatively the same thing, a monitor. In my eyes the Samsung can't be beat on performance and quality. But if you are that picky then maybe an AV panel might be best?

IPS isnt much more expensive, the very popular Dell u2312hm is cheaper but an inch smaller, the U2412M is more expensive but has a higher resolution.
Both won't hold a candle against against the blacks of a VA panel.

Want the best colour accuracy - IPS (decent response times)
Want decent colours en deep blacks - VA (slow response times)
Want the worst colours that shift on the screen itself - TN (fastest response times)

If you want deep blacks go for the BenQ if not go for either Dell.
The Samsung S23A700D is pricey due to the 120Hz option which does nothing for colour accuracy.

As for the reviews, one of the sites I value most when it comes to reviews decided it was the best VA panel based monitor amongst the batch they tested. For a monitor with VA panel it isnt all that slow either for casual gaming it should be borderline fine depending on how sensitive you're to ghosting. For movies etc it should be fine (plenty of "slower" TVs).
Sorry for the lack of links in this post, typing this on my phones en pasting them and adding bbcode is a pain in the rear. Not to mention that the train Im on is about to reaxh its final stop.

No, since the S23A700D has a TN-panel - I'm now on my desktop so posting links is a bit easier.. so here we go, you can try to Google translate this dutch page.
Relevant bit of the page
Should translate to something along the lines of:
Earlier we rewarded the BenQ BL2400PT and the EW2430 with a Silver award and we stand by our word. In this test the displays stood out less but they are still excellent displays that are particularly well suited for graphic editing.
