Hi, I'm looking for a little advice on a new build. The last time I put something together was about 2 years ago and I have barely touched a PC since, so i'm not up on whats going on.

It will be used for gaming, media hub, little bit of basic photo/video editing and the usuals.

I am open to ideas on what to go for. The only thing I know I definitely need is atleast 3TB of space, I'd like 4 if possible. Budget is about the £1000 mark but this can be pushed if it would be worthwhile.

Need the main system only, no monitor.

I've left out the case, you can choose any you like the look of.

If your gonna be editing and watching 1080p MKV rips more than gaming, keep the Q6600 and 4850...

...but if your gonna be doing more gaming, then go for a dual core E8400 and an ATI 4870 instead.

Hope you're going to back up all that data!

My strategy is usually to build a scalable system (e.g. one that can support 4TB) but only put 2TB in with another 2TB for backup in another system. Then when I come close to filling it up, get the rest of the drives.

No reason to blow a massive portion of budget on hard disks all in one go if most of the capacity will remain empty for e.g. 1-2 years.
