Hey there, my mate is looking to build himself a new rig soon, and was looking for a bit of advice on what to get. He'll mainly use it as a gaming pc and will probably do a bit of overclocking at some point.

He wants a C2D E6600, and an 8800gts or gtx. He's mainly unsure about which mobo is best to fit these i think, and what ram would be best considering he will do some oc'ing too. He isn't interested in SLi.

He has a budget of around £1000. Any help is appreciated :D

Thanks ;)

Edit: He has a nice monitor already and doesn't need the basics like kb/mouse/optical drives etc :p Probably a new HDD though.

I know there are some features missing but he can scavange them from his old pc.

This would be such a kick ass pc

So cool.

You would have to spend prob another 100 more. :( That would get you superior cooling.

But atm you get a 680i Motherboard with 1333fsb, A c2d with 4MB cache instead of 2mb, a 8800GTX as well as Half a terabyte of storage in raid. (these drives kick ass, i have 2).

(The ram is the best stuff I have ever seen. And at £164. Wait a minute. They have raised the price to £174  *******s

EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Team Xtreem 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (TXDD2048M800HC4DC)

(£205.61)
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

(£129.24)

If you get a 6300 instead, or even wait until 4300 is out tomorrow, could save more cash then a 6600, and still overclock like crazy. Add a case of choice and you're good to go.

Well he's decided to spend a bit more and is looking at this lot:

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK) £87.99 (£103.39)

Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £129.99 (£152.74)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £174.99
(£205.61)

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming case £59.99 (£70.49)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) £141.99 (£166.84)

OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £309.99 (£364.24)

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk (66I-00788) £66.99 (£78.71)

Sub Total : £971.93
Shipping : £10.95
Vat : £172.00

Now a few questions:

Is there a similar quality mobo that isn't sli? He says he doesn't need it.
Are all of those names (geil, corsair etc) reliable makes for those products? And do they have good warrantys etc?

Thanks for any help :)
