Hi all I am looking to upgrade my system my current system is as follows.

CPU

Memory

Mother Board

plus Radeon 9700pro

The trouble is I dont want to spend too much £300 max I would have thought.

I like to multitask on my PC e.g. encoding movies whilst playing FM and surfing the net, I would also like to play some of the better games in which my pc strugles with now. I would like to upgrade to a conroe system but I think this might be too expensive what is the cheapest you could setup a conroe system for ?

Intel Core2Duo E4300 - £112

Asus P5B - £82

1GB Corsair DDR2 RAM - £52

GeForce 7600 GS - £72

It's slightly over £300, and you'll want to upgrade the RAM and graphics card after a year or two, but the motherboard and processor should last you a while. If you can get a little more cash, I'd suggest getting 2GB of RAM and maybe a better graphics card (maybe even an 8800GTS if you can stretch that far). That'd give you a far more future-proof system.

Can't argue with the above, should give you a good basis to upgrade in the future. I'd see if you can find the extra for 2GB of ram if you can. But it is still a good spec above.

Cheers mate sounds good, but a 8800GTS @ £250 dont think the missis loves me that much, lol. I suppose I could stretch to 2gig of Ram though. What is the difference between the P5b & the P5b Deluxe ?

I would also need a new case and PSU to run this my case and PSU is about 4 years old.

The 8800 GTS 320mb performs similar but is 'only' £200 (if your close on price). I 'd get a new PSU, Corsair 520W is the best at the moment.

P5B vs deluxe version - I think it just a fancy heatsink. Go for the P5B or the P5N 650 sli, both around the £80 mark.

Right, the Akasa Zen will set you back £30, and is an excellent case.

As for power supplies, you'll probably want around 500W, this Hiper isn't bad for £55.

So, that's an extra £85. Upgrading to 2GB of RAM will add an extra £65, so that's £150 over the build earlier. That gives a total of around £470, if that's too much over budget, you can trim the RAM back to 1 GB and maybe even downgrade the video card slightly, which would get it to under £400.

EDIT: An alternative case/power supply would be the Antec Sonata II.
