Hi Folks,

Budget = £1000

All i need is a new tower, I have keyboard/screen/mouse etc.

Now my current spec is

P4 3.4GHZ 800FSB Northwood
2GB DDR PC3200 RAM
Radeon 9800PRO
Abit IC7 MAX3 Motherboard
520W Hyper PSU
Exos Watercooling

Now these are the things that need replacing, I'm going to be using my existing case as they are now quiet rare - Anyone remember the Black Widow? ;)

Now what I'm looking for is making my PC quiet as currently with the 4 case fans, 3 psu fans, 3 watercooler fans it's slightly louder than most would like.

Main uses will be, Gaming, Photoshopping, Web designing.

I've actually stopped PC gaming as my rig really does struggle with todays games.

I'm an ATI Fanboy really and have heard that ATI have a new card coming out very soon so would rather keep it to ATI please :)

Lets see what you can come up with :D

Thanks guys.

yeah the x1950pro should easily last untill DX 10 cards become more affordable. Very nice card.

So with Vista round the corner is it worth waiting for DX10 cards?

I mean I'm running Vista ATM which has DX10 installed and it runs CSS etc fine.

Also is the X1950 ATI's upcoming card?

Thanks all

You said you're an ATi fanboy, sadly ATi doesn't offer any DX10 compliant video cards yet. So your best bet is the 1950PRO, you get a cracking card and at the same time save yourself some money till ATi DX10 cards comes out.

No it isn't running DX10 my friend, it is running DX9. Vista is backward compatible meaning, you can run vista with older generation cards but not use the DX10 features it offer.

DX10 features can only be used with the present Nvidia 8800GTS/GTX and the upcoming ATi's R600.

It will technically be running DX10, it just wont be using DX10 advanced feature sets - as DX9 is not compatible with Vista as the whole OS is built around DX10. Like car headlights on dip, same lights, just not turned on completely.

A card like yours will run with DX10 , it just doesnt support all the hardware level features - the 8800 for example, becuase it is DX10 , will be able to use all the features on hardware level - like advanced shaders ect - when using your card these will be replaced by older shaders, or just entirely turned off.

*EDIT*

Was just having a talk abou this with some mates as i know its a matter of some discussion now , and quite an interesting one it is. Just wanted to point out that by running DX10 , i mean the actual DX version shown by the OS. Just contemplating now about how it all works, will have to speak to my mates at MS :) lol

Rgds,
Nomisf
