Ok guys, I'm feeling the need for a little spending spree & have lost the plot with all the new technologys about, currently have a A643000+ skt 754, MSI K8neo Platinum mb, 1gb Geil ram, several hdd's (1 being WD Sata 80gig), x800pro, Antec case with Truepower PSU, all of which have served me well for the last couple of years.

Could someone please spec me up a Rig with a limit of £1100, I've always prefered to use AMD cpu's & ATI gpu's (got an old 2500+ barton, NF7 rig I use as a local dev server) so this comp will probabbly become a fileserver for music etc.

Monitors, keyboards, etc not required in new rig as I can VNC into this comp to administrate.

Not too bothered about o/c'ing anymore, but need something quiet ideally. this spec should have a decent looking case, I like Antec Cases & have 2 already (the one prior to Antec Titan 550 Tower Case) I do like the look of the Antec P180, but no PSU.

So the challenge has been set, enjoy :D

Edit: I do play some games, & am looking forward to Supreme Commander. Other than that I use Photoshop, DW & Fireworks

Do you just need the PC itself or do you also need a monitor keyboard and mouse? If it is just the PC I'd be looking at something based around a 6600, 2gb PC6400 and maybe an Asus P5W DH Deluxe as the main parts with maybe an X1950XT or an 8800series card depending on what else you need. :)

Edit: actually on reading on what I wrote, I Don't need monitors (got 2) don't need keyboards or mice. Just the whole PC iteself, inc hdd's not to fussed about soundcard as I'll quite happily use built in.

I'm not doing so well on reading comprehension today :o :D

Ok this is about what I'd go for then as you say you don't want to overclock too much. It will be quiet and allows the potential to overclock later if you choose to do so. Although I mentioned the X1950XT it won't quite fit into the budget and it isn't that much faster than the X1900XT, at least nothing that a bit of fairly gentle overclocking won't fix. :)

inc vat = including vat, what you have given is + vat, btw I appreciate the time you have given so far. £1100 after vat is added if that helps.

But it is including Vat, the subtotal is £912.91(i.e. not including Vat), if you add on the Vat(£159.76) for that sum then you come to the total of £1,072.67 which even after you add in delivery should still come in at less than £1,100 as the final total.

I'm no doubt being exceptionally dumb but I really can't see what you mean I'm afraid.

ok, a random piece of hardware from that list.

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (3056) (GX-047-CO) Price: £189.99 (£223.24 Including VAT at 17.5%) from ocuk website

you put

Edit: VAT hasn't been added to the prices of the list you gave me.

Ok I follow but all the items are in the subtotal where Vat is then added, it makes no difference whether you add it on with each item individually or whether you add it to all at the same time. e.g. you will always come to the total of £1072.67 which is including Vat if you choose those parts.

If you want to go through pricing up each individual item then please feel free but I can't find a simple way to display prices both with and without Vat. :)

This one is top of the range...

Obviously no optical drive, but I can use one of my many others., what I do have a question about is, what will the graphics card be like, is it by somewhat scaled down to what the others are as at £159.99 it seems like a steal.

The X1950pro appears to be a fairly decent card and because it is a 80nm chip then it should overclock well, an X1900XT should still beat it reasonably comfortably from what I can see on a quick scan but if you want to save a bit of cash then it isn't that much of an issue.

However if you are going to be gaming at 1280x1024 or less then you might want to consider the X1900XT 256mb as it is even cheaper than the X1950pro and should be as quick or quicker I believe since the additional 256mb Ram won't really come into play at low(ish) resolutions. :)
