Hey guys, I feel it's time for an upgrade, selling my old parts, blue rig in signature below - firstly, what do you guys reckon I can get for them second hand, and secondly, with the money I get from selling them, what could I upgrade to - PC usage = interwebs, WoW, video editing and heavy multitasking

EDIT - Budget around ~700-1000 :)

Cheers!

Have to reach certain requirements to get into the members market, like being awesome, or having a certain amount of posts.

I'd say your motherboard is overkill. You'll get what you need for half that. 16GB is overkill too if you're just gaming and browsing. Also, you'll get a good air cooler for half that too.

I'm going through and seeing what I can salvage from current pc :P

can anyone else help me spec something? c:

from the blue rig, i'd keep the vertex 3 if its been performing ok and the 6970.

how much video editing do you do, reason i ask is spec'd an i7 , but if its not a major part of what the pc is used for i'd go with an i5 version.

What psu do you have and how old is it.

what case do you use, and what sort of cpu cooler are you currently using.

i would agree with gza. to my knowledge wow is nvidia biased. we would usually spec a 7950 as it was cheaper than the 670 but the release of the 770 has brought the price down. i've included 16gb of ram at a good price, ok it's 1600mhz but the kit isn't very tall and has some decent oc potential (REVIEW). SSD is larger and faster, 2TB HDD is Bgrade to save some cash. PSU is also semi modular to help with cable management.

Haswell is faster than Ivy and has some impressive power saving features. In a nutshell if you OC this spec to 4.4Ghz that's the same performance as Ivy @4.6Ghz (so roughly 200Mhz ahead clock for clock)

Now I'm even more confused! :(

Hmm, if I went piledriver, my current board would support it, correct? It's still a very powerful board and has some sweet OC'ing features - also power supplies, must be modularrrrrr! I'm sick of loose cables :P

I edited in a synopsis fella.

I just went off your basket you posted earlier. I still used a windowed case and managed to keep a nice theme going to style it too. I wouldn't bother with a 120mm CLC, it's flash for the cash something like the K2 Mount Doom air cooler is better value and still looks sweet. The 240mm CLCs (eg H100i) are better but case choice then becomes an issue. Seeing as the GB mobo has a free cooler might as well just go with that to be fair.

The theme is nice to keep going with a windowed case :) red and black with white lights I think :) - am I right in saying my board could support a piledriver? And if so, would it throttle it?

I've heard that the 8*** piledrivers only work on the 9** boards, preferably the 990X's..

if you need a new motherboard haswell is the way to go.
