Hi im after a new router to replace this poor virgin media superhub which is having some serious range issues, causing issues for my nexus 5 and laptop

Looked at some cheap Cisco Linksys E1000 on the bay if i installed DD-WRT i believe this may be sufficient but it would not be 5ghz which is the biggest letdown :/ (Although the reviews say its poor but DD-WRT would improve this router id assume?)

I have homeplugs installed for were the signal doesnt reach for the office upstairs as the router is next to the tivo box in front room of the house.

Looking for recommendations. Don't want an extender or repeater etc

Budget?

Poor hardware won't be improved with software.

Why 5ghz, I assume you have a receiver capable of receong at that frequency?

Personally I'd look at an Asus dual-band (ideally 802.11ac)

I wouldn't recommend getting an E1000, since I got one a while ago and it started going loopy after a few months (I doubt that swapping from the stock firmware to DD-WRT will help matters since it can't fix poor hardware).

Well i need a router which will kill my issues with TCP timeouts im facing with my poor superhub, Unless theres a way to change this

My budget? Im not sure really whats good and still relatively cheap
