Hi guys..

Sorry to be a pain in zee rear end, but I v.nearly paid £55 for 2gb of G.Skill PC3200 off the bay tonight, then realised its old tech and I should be getting some new stuff instead :p

Current setup is..

Viewsonic VX922 19" TFT
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Case
Enermax Liberty 620w PSU
AMD 939 4400+X2 @ 2805mhz
DFi Lanparty Ultra-d
Sapphire Radeon X1950-XTX
Creative XFi Xtrememusic sound card
Scythe Ninja Cooler
2 x 74gb WD Raptors ( Only using one as the raid function is kaput on my mobo ! )
1 x 500gb Samsung HD501
DVD-RW Drive..
Other random cd drive :p

now..

Pc is unstable, raid is knackered and there is some super fast stuff out there at the moment,

Can someone please spec me the bits I need ?

I'm thinking Quad core Intel ? Dual core Intel ?

I realy have no idea whats hot and whats not at the moment,

Thanks !

John

EDIT - Damn I'm dumb sometimes lol.. updated for all

Not realy sure on a budget.. anything between £200 - £250 mebe

I'd like to overclock, I don't play and super demanding games but a pc thats futureproofed and fast in windows on the internet etc is what I'm after

I want to keep my PSU , GFX Card , Harddrives.

Thanks for all the replys guys, I appreciate it :)

Sorry I didn't say lastnight !

Computer is mainly used for forums, msn, games ( San Andreas Multiplayer, COD 4 , DOD - Source )

Not realy sure on a budget, I don't want to spend megga amounts of moneys, but I want something thats going to last me a few years...

Motherboard needs Lan ports, SATA, good overclocking.. thats about it I suppose !

I'm guessing you just need CPU, mobo & memory...
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM £123.99
  • Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £64.99
  • GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) £26.99
  • Sub Total : £215.97
  • Shipping : £8.25
  • VAT : £39.24
  • Total : £263.46
:)

Oooh, I like this ! :)

However.. I've done some reading and people are saying that the E6600 is best for gaming overclocked to its max :\

- Budget - Ermm £250 max
- Do you game on it? - Yes
- Do you want to play new games? - Possibly,
- Do you use programs that use quad core? - no
- Do you want / plan to overclock? - Yes, its fun xD
- Do you want to keep any of your old components? - Case, GFX , Hard disks

Then change the Q6600 to the (newer) E8200 ;)

** Hugs **

Cheers buddy,

From the reviews it looks like they hit 3 Ghz with ease, which will be miles faster than my 2805 MHZ 939 chip,

Arghh but now I'm tempted by the E8200 which might do 4Ghz ! :o

I'm thinking of matching it up with an Abit IP35 Pro ?

But have no idea what ram to stick with it ! :(

Cheers for your help, again :)

right, realy need some help deciding stuff now please !

Pc threw a huge hissy fit today and I think its going to die very soon ! :(

Seems that from the reviews this chip should do 4ghz or near to that, which will be plenty enough.

I only burn / encode dvd's once in a blue moon so quad is useless to me at the moment, only abit of light gaming on San andreas Multiplayer and COD 4 MW..

Good enough for the job ?

Only questions are, should I get a cheaper motherboard ?!?

Thanks :)

cheers for that pingwing,

I think the Pro board is my best option as I like to have as much stuff as possible on there , I.E uGuru :)

Is there realy any need for 4Gb of ram ?

I realy am out of the loop at the moment when it comes to the the new gen stuff :(

Hmm Scythe Ninja probably won't fit at a guess, but I will buy a different cooler eventually

EDIT - According to CLICK ME it will fit the Abit IP35 board :)

I'm going to keep the scythe as I've got a massive fan strapped to it atm lol ! at it should fit ;)

Hello..

I hate people who create threads and never actually tell people what they went with in the end..

I've just ordered today..

Abit motherboard IP35 Pro Snake Intel P35 LGA775 Quad core / Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Extreme PCI-E x16 SATA 3G RAID Firewire Dual Gigabit LAN ATX

Intel CPU Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz 1333FSB LGA775 6MB cache Retail inc.Fan (3yr Manufacturers Warranty

Corsair 2048MB TwinX XMS2 6400 C4 DDR2 4-4-4-12 800Mhz Memory Kit (2 x 1024MB) With Dual-Path Heat Exchange (DHX

Should be heaps faster than my current rig, the other day one of my sticks of ram died ! :(

Careful about putting more than 1.4V Vcore through it though.

For a lot of people it's fine, but there are cases where the clock degrades. These 45nm chips are more stable than 65nm.

cheers for that :)

Whats the default voltage please ? just incase the motherboard gives it too much :o
