spec me a new sound bar/base

I have just sent back my Sony HT-XT3 after 3 months due to it being stuck in a power on/off loop and if i did work you could only turn the volume up or down and the lip sync issue that sony cant fix.If it worked it was a very good sound base.
So i sent it back to JL now have up to £400 pounds to spend on a sound base/bar.
The tv it will go with is a LG 55UF860V 4K
I am leaning to wards a bar as my tv is wall mounted.I also don't need a curved bar or surround speakers .

The only sticking point is it must come from jl.
Has any one got some good ideals for the above thanks

the sonos is way out my price range but the yamaha i just priced matched to £350 just in case

the canton looks nice any ideal on its bigger brother the dm75 never heard of them but will look in to it .

I've got it and although it's not the prettiest soundbar, it really does sound superb. I tested it against the Yamaha YSP-1600 in Richer Sounds and went for the Q Acoustics. The Yamaha is good, but I found the bass overpowering and didn't think it was a very balanced sound. The M4 has excellent clarity while still providing some thumping bass. It's also got AptX bluetooth, which I've used a couple of times and it works well. The only negative is that it's non-HDMI. I don't believe this affects the sound quality, it just means that you aren't going to be able to take advantage of an ARC connection if your TV has one.

would have to agree with you a great bit of kit but do you suffer from lip sync issues with it ?

been looking at it but size may be a issue.it dose come up with some very good reveiws tho. will have to go look at my final choices in store again
 
Have you considered a half decent 2.1 setup? Or even 3.0 setup? Or are you limited on space at the sides of the tv? Proper stand alone speakers will destroy a soundbar.

I own a yamaha ysp 1400 and its highly recommended in fact i bought a second as a gift. Both of mine combined however only cost £310 as i went second hand.

Its a shame you didnt consider the second hand market given your budget.

Ysp 1400 for £150 delivered is probably the best bang for buck ill ever achieve on a sound bar. Nothing however will come close to 2 monitor audio bx6's and a matching centre for £220.


I know some people attach a stigma to second hand goods but all the ones ive purchased have been in mint condition bar a slight normal wear and tear.

Not at all , works well for me . Really happy with mine , i upgraded from Sony HT-XT2 , amazing product from Sony :D

to be honest im just looking for that bit extra in sound not the full set up.I do have limited space and a wife that dose not want speakers every where.so a base/bar is the easiest route. as for second had kit it would be an option but have vouchers for jl.

no refused a replacement like for like from jl due to lip sinc issues i keep having and it going wrong in three months.They offered refund/credit in the end.As i will price match and buy from jl again due there customer service and 2 year guarantee
 
Thanks for your imput so far guys will keep looking at reveiws and see where it leads

I did some listening before i purchased the Sony htt-9 and the only thing that outshined was kit twice the price, Add to that room placement, space for the speakers amp etc it all points to soundbars in my situatiom.

Even a pair of £150 speakers will beat a £300 soundbar.

So I don't understand how you found the opposite to be true. A soundbar isn't built for sound quality it's built for convenience first. It also is tiny compared to a proper setup it needs to pack speakers into a very small area.

I own a YSP-1400 I got second hand for £150. I paid a similar price for monitor audio BX6's. The difference in terms of quality is night and day. Speakers will always beat a soundbar.

The reason why I own both is because I cannot have speakers in the bedroom. So compromises have been made.
