So, for the past 8 months or so I have been using a friends PC whilst he's been travelling, and I have become a little dependent on it :-/

I need to put another system together before I give this back so that I'm not left with a technological hole in my heart. I've messed around with putting my own together, but I'm so behind the times with this stuff I'm struggling.

As this is a year or so old pc, I'm looking to see if any of you guys could put something together to match these specs but for as tight a budget as possible? I'm hoping for sub 1k possibly £700 mark.

I don't need peripherals/monitors/OS's just the tower. I will be mainly using this for gaming, and would like as much RAM as possible as I'm a 3D artist(day job) and benefit from it.

CPU
Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.50GHz

RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 1105MHz (9-11-10-21)
Motherboard
MSI Z77 MPower (MS-7751) (SOCKET 0)
Graphics
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680
Storage
111GB Corsair Force 3 SSD (SSD)
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-9YN162 (SATA)

(TLDR/ Need to finish Farcry4)
Thanks!

Can I be friends with him too?

You won't get two powerful cards like your friend has, into a close-to-£700 budget so perhaps go for a single card that is more powerful than a single 680 (let's say two levels up - 680 < 280X < 290 ). Roughly a quarter to a third better performance, depending on the game. Double the VRAM too.

Budget case to keep cost down. Ideally you'd want a better one for that GPU but it'll do if needed. It fits and vents on side panel will help a bit.

Hasn't got an i7 processor, nor even an i5-K but if you want to keep price close to £700 that's going to be difficult. That's where you'd want to stretch if you can, along with a 250GB SSD if possible, although I'm sure you will manage with a 120GB if needed.

For mainly gaming, an i5 is still fine. You won't see much improvement on that front with an i7 (which on the other hand would be nice to have for your 3D work, probably).

If you take a punt on a B Grade video card...

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4790 3.60GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £245.99
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express G (GX-126-GI) £179.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED316G2400HC11CDC01) £107.99

1 x Xigmatek Mach Midi-Tower Black £22.99
Total : £783.52 (includes shipping : £8.00).

... you have the i7 without hitting £800. The "K" version plus a decent cooler would add at least £60+ to the total (depending on OEM v Retail CPU and which cooler).

The performance of an i7-4790 should be similar-ish to an average overclocked 3770K. Doesn't seem like your friend's is anyway (stock 3.5GHz?).

Have fun doing your nut in. ;)

What monitor will you be using, by the way?

Oh, that's fantastic!

Is there any real difference with a B grade card?

As for monitor I have an old Dell 24" ultrasharp, I will probably upgrade sometime this year.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out, its much appreciated.

What does "B-Grade" mean?
B-Grade items are manufacturer's repairs or items we are unable to sell as new, they may be subject to packaging damage or may be a brown box product. All B-Grade items come with a 90 day warranty and may be missing items such as driver CD's and cables. Unfortunately we are unable to provide you with the reason why this is B-Grade as each B-Grade item is different.

That i5 build looks really good.

To get it under the £700 mark you can either use the b grade 290 from the spec below and or drop the RAM to 8gb. For gaming the extra 8gb will make very little difference to gaming. That's £50-£60 saved easily and £50 if you go for the b grade GPU.

Such a good rig £700.
