I'm currently on the market for a very quiet and decent looking case. Meaning some good quality sound damping materials and a nice work space inside.

I've currently picked out these, but not too sure yet. The R4 is not in stock so couldn't add it to the basket so just added a B-grade one. Will be looking forward to some opinions and alternative cases.
YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Obsidian 550D Quiet Midi Tower Case - Black £119.99
1 x Cooler Master Silencio 650 Silent Tower Case - Black £101.99
1 x **B Grade** Fractal Design Define R4 Midi Tower Case - Titanium Grey £99.98
1 x NZXT H2 Classic Silent Midi Tower Case - White £79.99
Total : £435.01 (includes shipping : £27.55).

I'm currently leaning towards the Corsair 550d or the Fractal R4

I've got an Antec P280 which I'm very happy with for the price I paid for it (less than they are now) but I'd be tempted to go for the 550d if I was buying now and the price difference is as close as it is these days.

Get rid of the Coolermaster and the NZXT.

Now, we have two choices, the Fractal or the Corsair.

There's not much between them, but the fractal is known to have poor packaging and quality control issues..

Yesterday I put my system into the Fractal R4. It is not audible at all. It is pre insulated and the way they've made the HDD cages is simply amazing! all my SSDs are neatly pointed upwards and completely rubberised for silence on the normal HDDs too. Love the fact you can just pull the rest of the HDD cages out too for tonnes of tri-fire space :D Best case ever! Got mine brand new sealed for £80 though from a local retail shop so dunno why that used one is £100.

The fan controller is really cool you can plug upto 3 fans into the pre existing slots on it, I never knew putting all my stuff in a case would be such an easy job after spending so long on the Antec 902 and this was cheaper with a more luxuary finish and it is slightly shorter which is nice. The fans are easy to replace too with no screws you just clip them in the front with no skill required and plug em in.

Cannot recommend the R4 enough at £80.

Edit: also the psu faces down blowing out of a dust cover vent all along the bottom of the case unlike the antec where it pointed up blowing hot air up into the graphics cards.

You realise PSUs blow out the back, and suck the air in from the top?

It would only ever suck air away from a gpu, not push it towards it.

ohhhhhhhhh ok I thought it was cool so it is pulling in from under the case now instead of from inside so that is even better.

Yea the R4 does sound good, but I'm a massive fan of Corsair and all the cases I've seen from them have a solid build and look really good too. When I have some holidays I'll order the 550D or the R4 and move my build into one of them, gives me some time to decide between now and then :D

Corsair Obsidian 550D would be my choice... just love the design and solid build, ooozes with quality and the usb/headphone ports are at the front which means corsair actually applied some thought to this case all round.

I have fractual r2.... lovely and silent also but usbs/headphone on the top? so tedious to plug and unplug on the top especially if under the table !

I think corsair done a better job overall, would be nice to replace it with more silent/better fans also.

Built a system for a friend at work using a BitFenix Ghost Silent Tower Case was a pretty nice case to work with and includes the sound dampening panels, so may be worth a look for £75.

Got the ghost, yes its noise dampened but as already stated to get a silent machine its more about the components.

The dampening panels help to keep down the HDD and DVD sounds down but still need quiet fans.
