At the moment im playing star wars galaxies but its getting annoying as the developers are 100% retarded and keep messing with the game and the customer service is non existent.
Now ive played WoW and its like a childs game so no thanks, ive played lotro, guildwars, final fantasy online, vanguard, archlord, RF online and they all suck, are there any actual good mmo's out there ?

if Funcom don't do something about their billing system, conan is going to fall flat on its face. not to mention, they will, yet again, screw over the british gamer, by making us pay almost double that which the americans do.. oh, and VAT on subscription charges.. sucks

well to ed, i wont touch anything by soe as they are the worst mmo service in the world and screw everything up that they touch, and id like to try conan but as you say were gonna get screwed over as normal.

Another vote for EVE or EQ2.

I must say though, you should not believe the tripe that is out there about SOE, or go along with it. They have been in the MMO buisiness for a long time and, despite what some people think, they know what they are doing. They have a great support system and it works very well, I've never had any issues with it across the 3 SOE games I've played and have often received replies within minutes. They have done their best with the crap that is MxO and Vanguard:SoH. SWG was not really their fault, blame LucasArts for that, and PlanetSide failed financially, so they have not really screwed anything up either.

If you drop your irrational hatred of them and try EQ2 you will see it is one of the best MMO games of its kind ever made -if you play on the Nagafen server!!!- and just keeps on getting better. :)

How can you say EQ2 is not your thing yet you want to play Vanguard? I mean you do know that Vanguard is made by the guy behind EQ1, right? They are based on the same idea and the general gameplay is the same. Only thing is, Vanguard is complete crap and is continuing to fail, while EQ2 is fantastic and continues to go from strength to strength. :)

don't forget though that SOE introduced BFR's to Planetside which was pretty much the final nail in the coffin so a lot of the people I played with hate them for that. saying that though they've also introduced a fair bit of new content recently apparently so it's still going. it's a real shame because Planetside was the game that got me into MMO's and online gaming in general and still remains one of the best teamplay experiences I've ever had.

Vanguard failed because the planks in charge of development had no concept of project management (planning, resourcing, financial control, milestones, and so on). The financial backers pulled the plug out of sheer frustration and the thing went live unfinished. The alternative was abandonment. They gambled income from the game would finance finishing it.

SOE merely hosted it. (Were SOE the fiancial backers - not sure?)

After going live (if it can be called that) Vanguard bombed, everyone from the development team (except the chief architect of the failure sadly) was sacked and SOE took support and development for the product inhouse. In a way it could be said that SOE actually saved Vanguard.

However SOE are dishonest in that a lot of things promised upon signup (like extra characters per account) didn't happen, their extra features like stats pages for characters were inaccurate. Further last time I used it the whole user interface from SOE through which you have to dig out help resources, account info, server news etc is a terrible mess.

I won't rush to get involved with SOE again.

i used to like soe games but the gm's are 100% retarded and the devs are worse, the only game i like the look of really is stargate worlds, i just hope soe isnt going to do it as they bugger up everything they touch.

Loved DAOC and I think there have been a couple of engine upgrades since i last played. Never done the EQ or WOW thing but tried others which I didn't think compared to DAOC.

I'm sure you'll be able to get a free trial of this from somewhere if you fancied giving it a go. I simply don't have the time any more :(

Considering what eq2 was like when it was launched it has improved greatly ive just started playing again (i used to play When it was first released and didnt think that much of it). compared to how it used to be it come on leaps and bounds. although SOE have had there problems and downfalls i think this is something they got right

eve is also really good and has a great community

Im in beta for 2 of the "WoW killers" and the one based on the figurines is completely ****. :)

Just wait until someone develops Oblivion + MMO = Win.

It wont happen, but just hope and pray.
