I'm after a PC for about £1000. I'm not the biggest of gamers but I don't wanna buy now and have to upgrade again in a year and a half or so if you know what I mean

I already have a 600W case for this to go in, just need the bits for it

I've made up my mind to go Intel Core 2 Quad and probs an ASUS mobo, DDR3 RAM, and Vista 64 Home Premium. Ws also thinking about a 22" monitor as well

I'll need a graphics card, 2 HDD's and probs go for 2 DVD writers as well. Do you need a floppy nowadays?

Anyway, what shall I buy for the money, can I have your comments on this spec?

OCZ 4GB DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Platinum (2x2GB) Dual Channel DDR3 (OCZ3P13334GK) £223.24
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £148.04
Asus P5Q3 Deluxe @ Wifi-N Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £158.61 (Any initial thoughts on this????)
Asus VW222S 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black £170.36 (Or go for a Samsung???)
Samsung SH-S203D/BEBN 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM £32.88 for both
Samsung SpinPoint F1 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD502IJ) £93.98
HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT ICEQ3 TURBO 512MB GDDR4 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail £140.99
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66I-01939) £70.49

Total - £1038.58

Cheers Folks

dont bother with ddr3 yet its not worth the money and at present it is not much faster than the fastest ddr2, wait a month for a gpu as the new ones are coming out shortly which means new tech and price drops, just get 1 hdd, or 1 500gb and a raptor if you must have two.

oh and samsungs and dells are generally the ones to go for.

Floppys have gone (unless you want raid drivers for xp and cant do a slip stream). Also ddr3 just isnt ready, its a premium for it and its not reached the max speeds yet where as ddr2 is at its max speed and is dirt cheap for 4gig which will save you about £200 or so quid.

New gfx cards are a few weeks away so its best to hang on till then.

Oh another thumbs up for a samsung monitor though :) (also you might want to consider a 24 inch one with the money saved from avoiding ddr3.....)

just get the cheapest ddr2 800 or above, and most p35 boards are good - asus p5k, although the new p45 ones are also out soon.
